Had this exact TV died 2 months out of warranty. Bought a replacement QLED and realized how much better the picture was on QLED. Go for the Q6 series. S4 series isn't any good.

For $100 IDK if its worth it. 180 is a pretty good price for a 55"

Edit: rtings showing pretty bad overall for the Q651G.

for this one, its a little bit better.

Correct, after 50-100 years of stagnation, assuming we can keep the gray market and used markets at bay, despite endless internet options that enable both.

This isn't 1850, you can't build walls to keep people out and you can't solve manufacturing with tariffs.

The Q651G was tested under the new v2 rtings testing, while the older S451 was tested with the v1.1 testing. That's why the discrepancy. The Q651G is a substantially better TV than the S451 and would be rated quite a bit higher than the old S4 if they were tested on the same rating system.

I have a very similar model that I bought nearly 8 years ago maybe? Mine is the 55S515… no idea what the difference is, but mine is still going strong.Only drawback is at this point if you're going to use the Roku interface as opposed to hooking up something like an Apple TV or Firestick or whatever, I had real problems with the interface lagging so bad that I basically had to reboot the TV every day before sitting down to watch so it would run right. Not sure if it bogged down over time with updates or maybe a factory reset might make it act better but I just use an Apple TV so it's whatever.Anyone know what the difference between my model and this one? I wonder if this is some Black Friday type sub-par hardware- or just the fact of manufacturing quality in general has gone to shite the past many years. But all said I have 4 TCL Roku TV's and I haven't had a problem with any of them- and we use them pretty much daily for years. Frankly, I won't buy anything BUT a TCL Roku TV, so that says something. Samsungs are nice but I'm just a YouTube/streaming vanilla guy and don't care about all the frills of 8k qloed 15 million shades of black at 480hz. So...

I bought two of these November of 2022 when they hit 188 for black Friday. They are for my sports bar room. During the fall, they are on about 8-12 hours for college football, and then my kids game on them some at other times. They are still going strong. Speedy going through the apps.

My kid is headed to college and I just snagged another one for 188 bucks. To a certain extent you get what you pay for, but after 2 1/2 years the two in my sports bar room work great.

I have a TCL 55" Google tv. I got mine from Costco but it is the worst smart TV I have ever used, it constantly freezes, won't load apps, lags, at least 2.or 3.times a week I'm having to unplug it to reset it.

I adjusted frame rate, settings, did updates etc. Absolute garbage.

Exactly why I always use inexpensive streamers with all my TV's. Just changed all my streamers from Roku to the $30.00 Walmart Onn model.

Yeah, budget Google TV's are generally a fail. Even a recent relatively high-end LG QLED model my brother got last year is already having problems and slowdowns after just a few software updates. I've had 4 variations of TCL or Hisense Roku TV's in the last 8 years, and all have worked great and still running. To me at least, Roku OS just seems to be a lot more stable and hold up better long term than Google OS on TV's.

I bought the 43" version of this TV in fall 2022. With very light use, the backlight died 2 months ago (so about 2.5 years). This is a known QA issue (bad diode in LED power supply), so be aware of that if you buy this TV. I verified the dead diode with my multimeter and was able to order a new board for $36, which worked great.

do not buy these tvs. they will die on you. TCL TVs will burn out the t-con boards. it costs about $75 online.. but that's how the price of the tv. I have never gotten two years out of these tvs. I'll never touch them again.

Have bought almost 30 of these. Literally. Over the course of the past 5 years.
They are in each one of our churches daycare rooms and life group rooms.
It may have been a different model number, but there were all TCL, all Roku, and all 55 in.
Also have bought three of the 65 in of the same type.
When they're not being used to show content, in the daycare rooms, many are being used to play music.
Have replaced 5 of them.
