You're also paying for the better Z1 Extreme vs the slower Z2 Go.

The description is wrong. The processor in the Go is the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go, not the Z1 Extreme. There is a huge performance difference. Hopefully this is fixed soon.

This reminds me, I need to marketplace or offer up my Legion go, got it thinking I would be using it a few times a month, but in reality its been sitting in its carry case collecting dust. These things are great for what they are, portable powerhouses in a more gaming friendly form factor, but the integration on the windows ones at least isnt all there yet, the steam one should be more gaming only friendly. Also I know there are Steam OS builds that can be installed over the windows one and they seem to work pretty well.
Bazzite is the only way to fly on these systems.

Z2GO gets a lot of hate, but this price seems a lot more justifiable.

This is such a good deal for the OG Legion Go.

Just install SteamOS on as soon as you get home and take advantage of the steam summer sale that up until the 10th.

Owned one. Its a beast - literally. Portability is not really any better than a slim gaming laptop. Too much tweaking with the portrait display. But the dealbreaker was the weird right controller - those shoulder buttons were simply not good.

Disagree. I own the Go and its portability is better than ANY laptop, period. Because it can be held up, unlike a laptop that needs a surface to rest on. I have pretty small hands and wrists and can still hold it for about 2 hours with no issues. I only experienced the weird orientation issue with the screen once and it was from an old game I was trying out. Haven't experienced it again in any of the games I currently play, including older games. Also, I'm not experiencing any issue with the right controller.

Of course it's not a perfect device, especially with the horrendous battery life because Windows is not designed for handhelds. But because it's running Windows, I get the flexibility, using it both as a productivity device (screen is big enough unlike the Ally) and gaming handheld, and I don't have to do tinkering to get non-Steam games to work (unlike Steam Deck). I think the biggest fault of this device is the lack of support from Lenovo. Super slow with things like video driver updates. At least, you can still get them from AMD's website but it's not going to be optimized for the Go specifically. If anything, that would be my biggest reason not to get another Lenovo handheld in the future, especially once more and more companies release their own handhelds. With the upcoming Microsoft-backed Asus Ally Xbox version coming, that will be very interesting to see.

For anyone considering this, try to check it in person first. I had a Rog Ally (not x) and a Steam Deck (non-oled) before converting to the legion go. It's BIGGER, and while in straight numbers the screen might not sound that much bigger it is actually pretty significant. One thing I missed from my Steam Deck was the 16x10 aspect ratio. I play a lot of older games (emulation) and you get a LOT more functional space out of a 16x10 display when playing old SNES and similar games than you do on a 16x9. So in my case the smaller rog ally felt EVEN smaller for a lot of my use cases...

If you watch review videos be mindful that Legion has actually done a pretty good job keeping this up to date so some experiences around the software hub and "tools" are no longer applicable. My other main use case for this device is a streaming client. I say this because so many folks go "oh 1440p is a waste, it can't run anything at that speed" correct. But I stream from a RTX 4080 "desktop" that i run headless so yes with Moonlight/Apollo I do stream 144hz at 1440p to this "client" and the experience is exceptional.

Again it's not a slam dunk for *everyone* but when comparing this to the Rog Ally (x or not) I would be careful to really think about your total use case because both machines have different strengths. If I was mainly taking it out of the house and gaming ON the device rather than streaming or playing old consoles I would probably want the Ally X for the better battery life and more compact setup. As a classics emulator, a streaming target, etc this thing is the best option (in my subjective opinion). I really do enjoy the larger screen and aspect ratio that this offers even if it is litle more cumbersome to take "on the go". Also the detachable "joy cons" can be awesome when on a plane or anywhere with a tray table... again just giving examples of things to consider. I;m also much happier with the hall effect sticks this comes with than whats on the ally's which use standard pentometer or whatever it's called and prone to drift.. Only the triggers on ROG use hall, not the sticks (where it arguably matters most).

It's not a perfect device but none of these things are, you pick your compromises...

Portability to me is the entire package. This thing is a bulky brick and the case is longer than my 14" laptop is wide. And it will need to be pretty close to an outlet to get decent power and performance for more than 45 minutes.
My issue with the right controller shoulder buttons was the placement, and the overall lack of symmetry between the two controllers. I found myself accidentally pressing the shoulder buttons and feeling disoriented with the different placement of the back buttons. I also hated the lack of an Xbox (windows key + G) button, and at the time they had not allowed for button mapping (this was a while ago).

Software can always be optimized, but unless they release new controllers (which, at this point, clearly they're moving on), then there's no fixing my biggest gripe.

That's why I try to tell folks to not think about buying ANY of these blind because picking one up and holding it can absolutely eliminate your ability to enjoy it regardless of any spec sheet.

All solid points, but just fyi, the Legion Go 2 has updated controllers that will be backwards compatible with this one. You'll be able to buy them separately as well.

I think that's a huge benefit to having detachable controllers that the other handhelds lack.

I have one of these, it mostly gathers dust. I bought it not caring about power, because I mostly stream my games to it over the network. And it's fine for that.
The screen is big and beautiful. I wish it wasn't 16:10, but it's fine. But if I use the case when I travel, which I want to because the joysticks stick out, it takes up about 2x as much space in my bag compared to my 14" laptop!

Isn't the GO junk? Slower and less efficient than 8 Elite and M4. Winlator is pretty good for Android now.

It has very poor reviews on BB. Only posted cause the drop is the biggest we've seen I believe. I also don't know if it would do well running SteamOS (or even if that's a possibility).
