You can use the USB port. They can both do 2k at 60 fps but with HDR off. The A229 is larger on the front but smaller for the rear.

Yes, you can rename it. They also have different wifi names.

Yes, also in TX and use a sunshade. No problems with the TX heat. I had a problem with the white screen of death but that was in the Winter. This was rare for the A119 mini 2.

I actually have the opposite recommendation, leave the sounds and voice on. Once, the USB cable was loose and I didn't hear it come on. Another time, my memory card was bad so I didn't hear it say, "recording started". If I didn't have the sound and voice on, I would have not known my camera was still off or not recording to the memory card.

4K is more prone to failure than 2K due to more heat. Just search for viofo 4k failure.

Strange how there's no viofo A329 models on amazon, yet they have them on viofo's website.

I've had mine up since dec 2024, no issues here in DFW area.

Also bought the polarized lenses for the front camera which helps reduce glare quite a bit.

Have the 229 plus. With the newer starvis2 sensor it's almost 4K quality. 1yr and it's going strong in all seasons as car is always outside. Has enough wiring and even extra for the rear camera since you'll need to tuck it under from sight and ingress/egress areas. Wish it had a capacitor to record movement but you can always hardwire to the car battery.

Are these as good quality as Street Guardian dash cams?

I installed this on my civic a while back
Dashcams are always worth having 100 percent
You can also hard wire it to your fuse box so that you can use parking mode

I'd recommend this dashcam, but i've been out of touch with the latest and greatest

You want ones powered by capacitors and not batteries. Batteries will go kaput, while capacitors will last a little longer.
This alone is not sufficient if you live somewhere very hot like Phoenix. My BlackVue DR750X died in about 3 years parking in the sun in Texas. I used a sun shade which probably contributed to it dying, but my wife has a Thinkware Q200 that's still going strong after 6-7 years and also parks outdoors with sun shade.

This is strange. I actually bought the A329 from Amazon several months ago and now need another one but it's not on there anymore.

I won't touch another Viofo for a while, if ever. I'm waiting for another replacement and it'll be my last one. No better alternatives. Vantrue is even worse.
Same here, mine had the front plastic melt.

Someone scratched my car a couple of days ago in the Walmart parking lot (my car was parked, and I was shopping). So, I was planning to buy a dashcam that has parking monitor feature.
So, I have some noob questions:
  • Do I need to hard wire the dash cam to my car for using motion detection feature?
  • If I use the motion detection feature will it drain my car battery?
  • I already have a dash cam which only activates when I start my car, but my plan is to monitor the car when unattendant. will this dashcam serve the purpose?
You will need to hardwire to get any recording while the car is off. They have different parking modes, event driven, vs time lapse.

The hardwire kit has a switch on it, to turn off the cam when the battery gets down to a selected voltage. 4 setting options.

Yes, again, as long as you hardwire it.

I've had my 119v3 for years now, still going fine. Maybe you've just had bad luck?

I hope. Or 119v3 is better quality, unlike their "cheaper" mini2. Maybe i'll skip a few generations and try something non-mini when/if they improve quality. I don't think they'll keep sending replacement cameras indefinitely and i don't want to play their replacement game either. I just want a camera that works, like the old pos original garmin mini that just worked. I may need to go back to a simple 1080 if i don't want to spend $500+ on other overpriced brands. Who needs starvis2 if 2k/4k cams fail after a few months.

Bought it last black Friday and it's (mostly) perfect! I have had no recording issues since the install, and it suits my needs!

Some notes:

With the battery kit, it stays on for about 2-4 hours after a 30-minute drive and sometimes not at all. Not ideal, but it may be due to my car battery being old (has not been changed for AT LEAST 6 years) or poor installation (my car has no toggleable fuses in the cabin, so I had to route it through the engine bay fuses).

I recommend buying the polarizing lens for the front and maybe the back too, since it really improves the overall quality.

If you do plan on buying the Bluetooth remote control, expect it to be buggy. I honestly do not like how it has to pair every time you want to save a video, and 2/3 of the time, it does not work for some reason. It seems that holding the button down does help, so it might be user error on my part.

Regardless, if you are looking for a reliable dash cam that can consistently record while driving with great quality, I would get it for the price! I can tell that VIOFO has taken the time to make a great dash cam!

My A119 mini died after about 6 months. It took about a week of emailing for them to agree to a replacement. I first had to ship my dead unit (at my expense) and provide a tracking number. Then they shipped me a replacement FROM CHINA. That's the weirdest part. Why didn't they ship them from the US? I'm currently waiting for the replacement to arrive.

Video quality was quite good. If it didn't die, I was very happy with it.
Here's my RMA experience:

I live in TX shipped it to FL on 4/27/24. On the same day, they shipped it from China. I received the dashcam on 5/3/24.

Btw, did your mini have the white screen of death?

It sure did. They questioned me about it and asked me to take videos and update the firmware. After doing all that, they agreed that it needed to be replaced. It was still recording, but no screen.

Similar to you, I shipped to FL and they immediately initiated the replacement. So strange that it comes from China though. Surely it would be cheaper for them to send from a US warehouse, but I guess not. This was just last week so I haven't gotten the replacement yet.
