You can use the USB port. They can both do 2k at 60 fps but with HDR off. The A229 is larger on the front but smaller for the rear.

Yes, you can rename it. They also have different wifi names.

Yes, also in TX and use a sunshade. No problems with the TX heat. I had a problem with the white screen of death but that was in the Winter. This was rare for the A119 mini 2.

I actually have the opposite recommendation, leave the sounds and voice on. Once, the USB cable was loose and I didn't hear it come on. Another time, my memory card was bad so I didn't hear it say, "recording started". If I didn't have the sound and voice on, I would have not known my camera was still off or not recording to the memory card.

4K is more prone to failure than 2K due to more heat. Just search for viofo 4k failure.

Strange how there's no viofo A329 models on amazon, yet they have them on viofo's website.

I've had mine up since dec 2024, no issues here in DFW area.

Also bought the polarized lenses for the front camera which helps reduce glare quite a bit.

Here's my RMA experience:

I live in TX shipped it to FL on 4/27/24. On the same day, they shipped it from China. I received the dashcam on 5/3/24.

Btw, did your mini have the white screen of death?
Yep mine had the white screen issue. May give these another shot but honestly I'm looking at getting a camera from Costco just to make returns easier as anything with that much use will eventually break.

Do you use a sun shade and park outside? My Blackvue DR750X died in under 3 years in Texas, but I park in the sun and use a sun reflector shade on the windshield. Blackvue cannot handle the heat
I've had my A119V3 installed for 5+ years now. I live in Florida, use a sunshade, and when I'm not at home the camera is running (unless I forget to turn it on). I don't use parking mode, it just runs, sometimes weeks at a time. So far no problems with it. I can't justify replacing it yet as it's still running. Viofo now has an external waterproof camera so I'll end up replacing the a119V3 just to have a camera mounted on my rear bumper. Then I'll be able to watch the idiots rear end me instead of just having the sounds and shake from the 119v3 mounted on the windshield. Having said that, some of the newer cameras run hotter, especially the 4k ones. Regardless of what camera and brand you go with, get one with a capacitor and not a battery.

What makes these better than all other cheaper/generic ones that has been flooding this site lately?

Better picture quality and more reliable.

The cheap ones usually will not last, have little to no support, and their picture quality is not good no matter what they say.

The VIOFO Dash Cam A119 Mini 2 is the best bang for the buck. Add a high endurance memory card and you will be set.

Looking for a front/rear combo. The A229 or the Redtiger F7N at $85? The difference also includes having to buy 2 SD cards for the A229 as well. Worked out to about $75 more for me too. Thanks!

Yes, park outside for work and have a sunshade. I also have window visors and keep my windows cracked, which helps tremendously with heat. Plus ceramic tinted front window.
The rest of the time garage kept.

I did hardwire my dashcam to an accessory fuse to go off once my vehicle does to reduce battery drain.

Found out my usb ports stay on for quite awhile after vehicle is off (around an hour).

Ceramic front eh? You wouldn't happen to live in NC or SC? I'm in NC and the dumbest thing state laws do here is not allow any tint in the front unless ceramic clear.

Waiting for a 119 V3 deal. Have two for a few years that work perfectly. Have one in rear window wrapped in aluminum foil to keep the sun off it..

So just to confirm, I need to buy the a229 and then another hardwire kit if I wanted to set it up that way? It works via batteries out of the box?
How much is the hardwire kit?

It doesn't run on batteries. It needs to be wired. It comes with USB / cigarette lighter wires out of the box, but if you want it hardwired you will need to buy a kit.

Can this kill my car battery if I forget to turn it off?
You really can't "forget to turn it off". if it's being powered by the cigarette power, that turns off when the car turns off. if you hardwire it, with the hardwire kit, so that it has power when the car is off, it has a safety and will turn off when the battery reaches a certain voltage.

I'd recommend 2 channel, one for front, one for rear. If you don't want parking mode, you can just use the included cables to run off 12v outlet or USB. If you don't want to use that, and you have a powered rearview mirror, there is a company that makes a tap off your power there, https://dongar.tech/. If you want parking mode, you need to buy the hardwire kit, to run to the fuse panel.
