You can use the USB port. They can both do 2k at 60 fps but with HDR off. The A229 is larger on the front but smaller for the rear.

Yes, you can rename it. They also have different wifi names.

Yes, also in TX and use a sunshade. No problems with the TX heat. I had a problem with the white screen of death but that was in the Winter. This was rare for the A119 mini 2.

I actually have the opposite recommendation, leave the sounds and voice on. Once, the USB cable was loose and I didn't hear it come on. Another time, my memory card was bad so I didn't hear it say, "recording started". If I didn't have the sound and voice on, I would have not known my camera was still off or not recording to the memory card.

4K is more prone to failure than 2K due to more heat. Just search for viofo 4k failure.

Strange how there's no viofo A329 models on amazon, yet they have them on viofo's website.

I've had mine up since dec 2024, no issues here in DFW area.

Also bought the polarized lenses for the front camera which helps reduce glare quite a bit.

I had Gemini do a deep research and generate a report on top rated dashcams.

Best Overall: Viofo A329 / A329S

"The Viofo A329, and its upgraded successor the A329S, are consistently recognized as leading performers in the dash cam market, frequently earning the "Best Overall" designation from expert reviewers. "

Best Value & Mid-Range: Vantrue N4 / 70Mai A810

Grok results:
1.Viofo A329
2. Viofo A229 Pro (2-Channel)
3. Nextbase 622GW

The A329 seems to only be on their website and it's pricey but it tells you the brand is probably decent - confirming what others have said.

What would be the main benefit of the rear camera? The front camera will catch most incidence where you would likely be involved. The rear hits are anyway on the other person and easy to prove

What if you get reared and then they uturn and drive away? You don't get to record their plate unless you chase after them

I have quite a few times have blind drivers almost backed into the rear. Gotta gather as much footage as you are able to. Also sketchy people lie in accidents, even when its a rear end they can still lie and say you back into them.

Ceramic front eh? You wouldn't happen to live in NC or SC? I'm in NC and the dumbest thing state laws do here is not allow any tint in the front unless ceramic clear.

TX isn't really allowed here either. If you're not going overboard with it, most installers won't put anything below 70% on the front window anyway, since anything less is noticeable and could get you a ticket.

Most folks can't even tell if you have tint at 70% or more.

FYI for those who want to do an OBD II hardwiring, I just emailed Viofo a few days ago and they responded with:
"Dear customer,
Thanks for contacting us.
Our OBDII car charger will probably be available next month, you can kindly subscribe our official website first.
If you use a third-party OBD cable, the camera may turn on normally but the parking mode may not be available."

Is OBD standard different for all cars? I don't think so. I've been using a generic dual port OBD adapter for about 2 years. Viofo works fine when it doesn't suddenly die. I don't know anything about full electric and hybrids, if they have the standard OBD port or something else.

When i first bought this adapter i ordered a backup jumper battery. Never had to use it. My battery is about 3 yrs old.

I'll order Viofo OBD adapter when it becomes available just to compare how it's different from a cheaper generic. If my replacement cam still works.

I need to do a PSA for this. You should NOT use a polarizing filter if you have clear ceramic tinted windshields. It will give you rainbow effects because 2 pieces of media are now filtering light

I wish VS1 mini could do 2k/60. I'd rather buy with no screen than the useless tiny mini2 screen but mini2 can do 2k. I wonder why it's cheaper than VS1.

My only issue with Viofo is that I wish you could lock the camera angle in place with like a tiny screw or something. I often use a sun shade and every once in a while, I'll accidentally knock the camera's angle out of place. It's easy to move it back but only if you remember to do so. A permanent angle lock would be convenient in this scenario.

Yes lens lock would be a good idea. Mine does it sometimes too.

So if I just want the 1 channel, 2K, a229…

Do I just buy the 2 channel a229 Plus for $159 anyway?

Is $159 a good price for the a229 1 channel 2k? I don't think I see amazon selling this version

Is this any better than the redtiger brand? I have the VIOFO Mini one of my vehicles now and looking to get one for another vehicle. Looking the small RedTiger F4 Proc4k. @ $120VIOFO will be cheaper on Prime Days
Viofo is probably one of the top brands for dashcams.

Perhaps you could try some black tape?
