This is a heck of a deal.
My kids (5 and 8) still play with these daily. Tytan is my personal favorite for magnetic tiles. Stronger magnets than Picasso or MagnaTiles, and better build quality than Picasso. Tiles are the same size as those other two brands and you can mix/match in your builds.
I'm tempted to go in for another set at this price.

Appreciate the comparison, I've only tried Picasso so far, but sounds like Tytan might be an upgrade. At this price, kind of hard to pass up.

# Magnetic Tile Brands: Magnet Strength Comparison

Based on comprehensive research and testing reviews, **Connetix** has the **strongest magnets** among the five brands you mentioned, followed by **Playmags** in second place. Here's the detailed ranking from strongest to weakest:
## Detailed Magnet Strength Rankings

### 1. **Connetix** - Strongest Magnets
Connetix consistently receives the highest ratings for magnet strength across multiple reviews and comparisons[1][2][3][4][5]. The brand features **larger magnets** than most competitors and uses a unique **beveled design** that enhances both strength and durability[2][6]. Multiple reviewers specifically note that Connetix magnets are **stronger than most other brands**, with one source stating they "contain stronger magnets than most"[4]. Parents and educators frequently praise Connetix for enabling more complex and stable builds due to this superior magnetic strength[1][7].

### 2. **Playmags** - Very Strong (SuperMags Technology)
Playmags takes second place with their **SuperMags technology**, which makes their magnets **twice as strong** as previous versions[8][9][10][11]. The brand specifically markets their "SuperMags" as being significantly stronger than standard magnetic tiles, with multiple sources confirming this enhanced strength[10][12][13]. One reviewer noted that Playmags magnets are "super strong" and allow for building tall 3D structures effectively[10][12].

### 3. **Magna-Tiles** - Strong but Balanced
Magna-Tiles, being the original magnetic tile brand, offers **good magnetic strength** that's specifically designed to be appropriate for little hands[14][15][16]. They use **high-quality ceramic (ferrite) magnets** that provide reliable strength while remaining safe and easy for children to separate[14][17]. While not the strongest, they offer an excellent balance of strength and usability[18][19].

### 4. **PicassoTiles** - Moderate Strength
PicassoTiles generally receives ratings for **moderate magnetic strength**. While functional for building, multiple comparisons note that PicassoTiles magnets are **slightly weaker than Magna-Tiles**[20][21]. However, some individual reviewers found the magnetic strength adequate for their needs[22][21]. The brand offers good value but sacrifices some magnetic strength for affordability.

### 5. **Tytan Tiles** - Moderate Strength (Designed for Easy Separation)
Tytan Tiles are designed with **moderate strength** that's intentionally balanced - **strong enough to hold pieces together but not so strong that they're difficult to separate**[23][24]. This makes them particularly suitable for younger children who might struggle with stronger magnets. The brand prioritizes ease of use over maximum holding power.

## Key Findings from Research

The research reveals several important insights about magnet strength differences:

- **Connetix and Playmags** are consistently rated as having the **strongest and most durable** magnets among the brands tested[3][25]
- **Magnet size matters**: Connetix features **slightly larger magnets** than Magna-Tiles, which contributes to their superior strength[2][6][26]
- **SuperMags technology**: Playmags' newer versions with SuperMags are specifically engineered to be **twice as strong** as standard magnetic tiles[8][9][10]
- **Brand compatibility**: All five brands are generally compatible with each other, allowing for mixed collections[1][27][24]

For parents seeking the **strongest possible magnets** for complex building projects and maximum durability, **Connetix** is the clear winner, followed closely by **Playmags** with their SuperMags technology. If you prioritize the perfect balance of strength and child-friendliness, **Magna-Tiles** remains an excellent choice, while **PicassoTiles** and **Tytan Tiles** offer more budget-friendly options with moderate but functional magnetic strength.

my sister has this brand and my niece loves them - no complaints. Also, they have a 4.8/5 on Amazon.

Just checked the toy bin - I found a Playmag, Picasso, and Tytan to compare. Playmag definitely has biggest magnet, followed by Tytan. Picasso is the smallest/weakest.
Playmag also has rivets, which is nice, though in six years we've never had a tile separate.
I don't have a MagnaTile on hand to compare, but remember checking them in the past at a friend's and finding them equivalent to Picasso.
All that said, these tiles are all several years old. Maybe the newest tiles have changed?
