What makes Asus router great is Merlin firmware and many other add-ons such as adblock at router level, better firewall, better guest networks, etc

The Flint 2 router is truly the best router for the money. Unless you really need wifi 7, I would go for that over this.

Current have one as an AP but need to replace my primary router. Have been debating investing into either a wired back haul mesh system under Asus, or having primary router be a Ubiquit or a flint.
Is it worth going more deeply into Asus?

Flint 2 not bad either. I went with this a while ago, has quirks but can run Merlin OS or even factory boot scripts by modding.

If you like to restart your router every other day then go for it. The 2.4ghz wifi range also sucks. Don't believe the hype about flint 2.
