Nintendo was very unhappy with Amazon over some of the third-party sellers on the platform reselling Switch games from regions with discounted MSRPs on the US storefront at lower prices, giving them an unfair competitive advantage over anyone selling copies actually intended for the NA region - or, more specifically, the fact that Amazon refused to do anything about it, despite Nintendo's repeated requests.
Apparently, they changed their minds, and the only reason I can think of is compensation in cold hard cash.

I have never actually used any of my original Switch consoles as portables, so anything battery-related doesn't bother me.
I will admit to being pretty p***ed off that they stuck the Switch 2 with HDMI 2.0 video output, though. As a result, the heavily advertised VRR function only works on the built-in screen, which they seem to have accidentally forgotten to mention anywhere. It also doesn't support FreeSync, AMD's free VRR implementation that works over HDMI 2.0 on screens that support it, despite the GPU architecture being compatible.
There simply is no good justification for that kind of BS, with HDMI 2.1 having been the global standard for long enough that the HDMI 2.2 standard is already coming out next year.
I can see an argument for a less than stellar integrated screen (compared to the Switch 1 OLED model), trying to keep costs down, but releasing a console in 2025 with HDMI 2.0, with HDMI 2.2 already almost out, just shouldn't be considered acceptable. Even the Xbox Series S has HDMI 2.1, and came out years ago.
They've also kept the fact that it's HDMI 2.0, and its implications, sufficiently quiet that various tech sites have run full articles about VRR not working for TV output, and the tests they ran to confirm the discovery - so they definitely hid that fact intentionally.
As someone who is unlikely to ever take their Switch 2 out of the dock (never did for the Switch 1, either), the whole thing just really irritates me.
