2 mile range sucks because you want 10-15 mile range to get 5 mile talking

These are great for the price. My kids are having a blast with them and they sound much better than toy ones they played with before

How are these for young children for just play around the house?
That's what I got them for. Kids running around the back yard have loved them so far. We gave one to mom and she was getting a to-go order to bring lunch outside.

FWIW, being a ham, we programmed one for getting into a local 440 repeater which is 15 miles away. No issues getting into it, but then the repeater has altitude and a high gain antenna.

You programmed these units on sale to operate the repeater? The transmit and receive are usually on different frequency offsets... What software did you use?

Part of the FCC requirements is no removable antenna. For generic short distance use a big antenna is pretty annoying.
If your working on a constructions site these are very handy just to get through to one of your peeps, especially apprentices and laborers...they disappear (a lot)

How do you know these are Mini-USB? Amazon shows that I bought a pack of these a few months ago, and they had USB-C. It was great to use on the beach/lake/hiking when there was limited reception. One of ours fell in the lake and still worked after drying it out.
I just got mine today, they are USB-C! Sound quality for the size is excellent too. Very lightweight too.

If using these while traveling in cars on the road, will these work if the cars are close enough?
I bought the smaller, less powerful RT15 from the Prime Day deal, and a friend and I just used them on a 2,000 mile car trip. They worked great, though our cars were rarely more than a 1/4 mile away from one another.

Definitely far easier than a cell phone for car-to-car comms.

We tested the walkie talkies again with full battery charge and got the same result as I had posted before. At about 8/10 of a mile we began hearing some choppiness in the audio signal.

If you want to test how they perform in your area, have one person stay at home, have the other person set odometer on their vehicle to 0.0 and have them check in every tenth of a mile.

Not the 2 miles they publish, but the range I had expected before buying. These have been great for kids to play with.

Just be careful, if the kids begin clipping these to their shirt collar to act like police, it will very likely stretch out their t-shirt.

FWIW I Got mine a few days ago. They are usb c, but lord do they feel cheap. I wasn't expecting much at this price, but they I highly doubt they will last a month at my house. Also, range isn't that great.

Anyone try these radios before? Any good?
Let's just say, I bought it twice in the past, the last time is last year at $47 of a set of 4. When I bought the first time I bought two different brands, this one I tested in crowded city can reach 1.8 mile no problem. I like it as it's light and small while concealable, battery can last a full day, ideal for travel with family. But airport may not like so put it away when boarding.

Not sure about the newer version, but the original version with mini-USB are very durable. Other than one lost in travel, all I bought are still rocking, small size and very solid, with a tiny antenna, it works as good as some with longer and bigger unit.

And yes, it's mini-USB charging cable, out of fashion a long time ago, so you might want to keep those cable handy.
