They had an open opportunity to own the home automation space and they squandered it and I just cant wrap my head around it besides awful, awful management because we all know they have the engineers to do anything
It's nice to have them around but not rely on it as part of your daily routine. I use these only for simple things like asking weather, some facts, definitions etc. Ive been into people's homes where they blurt out and use commands JUST to use them. Like asking to turn off lights etc but the switch is literally a second away. Then of course it doesnt get their first ask so they have to repeat, then the delay, where if they just moved 1 sec it wouldve been done already.
I havnt seen much improvement in these things regardless of brand since the onset. There are just many--like those in this post--who are already way in too deep and invested.
I still think this is overpriced without having a camera. The camera to enable video calls might be worth it. But without, its overpriced. Rathe rjust continue using my phone with its big 6" screen. Cheaper the better with these things.
I got those old discontinued lenovo smart clocks (not with the screen) for rooms. It functions well as an alarm clock with a big simple clock display, has built in night light, has google assistant and could find them used on marketplace from unsuspecting sellers for $10.

One huge benefit this device has over the Echo8 is that its effectively a screen for castingā¦it has a built-in Chromecast. Any app that supports Chromecast tech can be cast to it.
Basically just look for the chromecast symbol on a variety of apps and it should be able to project onto this little display. It's a great feature!

How would a smartwatch be able to be used as a casting screen?
