It sounds nice but it has a lot of issues per Dell website & Amazon reviews. I needed to replace my old XPS which had widely known bluetooth issues, this is basically the XPS successor but still has bluetooth issues... kind of crazy they can't get their stuff together after all these years (cheap/bad parts/poor QC). https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/d...gs_section

It has a Socketed M.2 2230 Wi-Fi Card. So, can't the problem be resolved by simply changing the Wi-Fi card? They normally cost $20-$25 for Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E cards.

I'm not a hardware person but if that works it would resolve that specific issue. But I read through the Dell reviews and there are a lot of issues with the computer which remind me of my multiple old XPS desktops (poor cooling, loud fans, computer freezing, PC runs slow). After decades of Dell I tried a Cyberpower PC the other day and it was infinitely better than any of my Dell XPS desktops (quiet, cool). I'm not sure if I will keep it though I am considering a MSI desktop from Costco (has a better CPU and likely better parts from what I've read).

It may be worth it for $1350 after the 10% off, and even better if you have an extra discount from AmEx or elsewhere.

Definitely not worth it for $1500. Brand new retail RTX 5070 is available for $550, which puts the rest of the PC at $950 (a meh price even for a high-end configuration). An arguably better configuration in that price range is this deal:

ABS Cyclone Aqua Gaming PC: Intel Ultra 7 265KF, RTX 5070, 32GB DDR5, 1TB SSD $1529.99.

For me, I'm trying to find a way to replace my Desktop XPS. It's a little over a decade old, and runs Windows 10 (doesn't have TPM 2.0 for Win 11) which support ends in mid-October for Win 10.

I'm kinda stuck wondering if this is the best deal. Wait till BF, or something else? (or maybe try to find an XPS without the graphics card, and hold out for a BF deal with that? IDK?)

I'd like to stick with the XPS to hold me over for a while, but that would push me past the Oct deadline for support if I wait for BF.

.

Anybody else out there that's looking to upgrade their Desktop XPS in the same positions as me looking for a decent XPS deal ATM?

I don't see why the desperation to upgrade. If you are on a 10+ year old computer, you aren't doing anything on it for hackers to be worth targeting. No one will be rushing to hack your Windows 10 just because Microsoft said they wouldn't support it anymore. Just practice good online hygiene as you should constantly be doing anyway, and you'll be fine.

Here is a good list of suggestions on how to stay on Windows 10 safely [reddit.com]. I didn't spend a lot of times looking; I am sure you can find other suggestions/discussions to alleviate your concerns.

What you posted was solid advice. FWIW, I'm a little bit of an old timer with tech. (been using MS since DOS)

For a while I was upgrading and repairing PCs, and thought I was kind of bulletproof/safe with online safety. But, I remember a family member getting hit with ransomware. (Win 7 towards the end) This family member wasn't doing anything suspicious that I know of. Unless.. IDK, Maybe opened up a link from an email link. Either way.. I remember looking at the ransomware screen, and never thought that I would see that in my life that myself or anyone from my family would get hit with that. So I scrubbed the PC and made sure it was fully updated, and got it back online.

But that moment really caught me off guard.

.

Moving forward.. I'm looking at an XPS to be my daily driver.

Maybe some light gaming, but I want it to last a few years.

I used to build my own PCs years ago, but I rather go the Dell premade route, and upgrade if needed.

I know that iBuyPower is the popular Desktop and HP Omen has been also kinda popular around here lately too, but I'm just IDK I just like Dell XPS systems.

.

One other Microsoft option that I see (for my current security setup) is the option of paying $30 for anther year of Windows 10 support, but I'm kinda on the fence if paying that $30 per year is worth it for a month. (if I go the XPS Desktop BF deal)

I'm not a fan of just donating $30 for a month, but then again, BF may end up saving me more than the $30.

Just thinking out loud, just brainstorming, just seeing if anyone else is in the same boat with a Win 10 computer that can't be upgraded to Win 11 kinda stuff.

Either way, thanks again for taking the time to post the info link.

I hope I didn't come across too harsh. I was just trying to be sensible. Your thought process is solid too. I used to serially upgrade every year or so (Dell refurbished PCs from the Outlet all the time). But my changing interests and needs caused me to slow down. I've been on a Precision workstation for 5 years and find less and less incentive to get off it.

$30/year may be worth it just to save the time and effort of migrating off of your current XPS. If it has served you this long, perhaps it can for a little longer. If you are behind a good router, have good antivirus and don't visit questionable sites or download suspect stuff, your online security risk is, hopefully, very limited.

You didn't come across too harsh at all, and I sincerely appreciate the compliment on my thought process.

.

FWIW, I haven't bought a Dell in a while. My desktop like I said before is apx 10 years old. I know that my Desktop is old, but with all the PC manufacturers that I've used my entire life, Dell is pretty much why I don't really build PCs anymore. (or maybe I'm getting old IDK)
If I were to hold on all the way to BF. That month between the cutoff mid October through BF, kinda makes me feel slightly uncomfortable to not upgrade Windows. I do have a standalone Antivirus. A decent one too, but nothing is bulletproof. If my family can get hit with ransomware at the end of Win 7 (again it was probably an email link opening but still), it can happen again.

.

So basically, I'm either waiting for a deal before BF or looking at maybe eBay, and possibly buying the base for now, and adding/upgrading what's needed later. OR Spending that $30 for a year to get that one month of support.

Anyway.. IDK if Dell has fallen off with quality support over the past few years, but for whatever reason, they don't seem to be as popular around here as they were a few years ago.

I haven't stayed on top of Dell deals, but I also feel that there have been fewer of those. I wouldn't necessarily think that their quality deteriorated (any more than any one else's). They are probably targeting other market segments and/or sell more via the normal retail channels and are not trying to be price leaders.

But that's also one of the reasons I have stayed on the same refurbished Dell Precision for so long: I haven't been seeing truly compelling deals to make the jump, and I don't even need the latest and the greatest anymore.

I kinda get what you're saying about the latest and greatest.

I used to be in the race of having the latest and greatest myself, but eventually got kinda tired of that on a year in/year out basis.

.

Truth be told, I'm not really looking forward to upgrading.

I'm mainly doing so because it's not compatible with Win 11, but I have programs that have licenses that I need to bring over as well.

.

IDK, it should be an interesting BF for sales/deals, because I'm sure there's a lot of people out there that need to buy a new PC/laptop/etc in order to upgrade their OS.
