File a comment where? In the Verizon Unlocking Waiver Petition thread? I did that in June.
Good. If everyone reading this did we'd already have the second largest FCC docket. Verizon only cares about the embarrasment potential of a fine. If they get this rule gone, they'll apply it retroactively to any device not yet unlocked.

That's not what happened April 1st, policy change was immediately put into effect for everyone with no notice, didn't matter when they activated.
Verizon changed from "60 days after activation" to "60 days of paid service". I am not so sure but if they promised a 60-day lock policy to FCC this didn't technically break that.

That is what I was referring to as the 'existing 60 day unlocking policy'.

They went from requiring 30 days paid service & 60 days activation to 60 days paid service - and it was retroactive with no notice. That's why everyone was caught short and had to add the additional month. If they get approved they can just as easily make it 6 months paid service without any warning again - and users won't have any choice but to pay. I'll be surprised if it isn't approved, consumers usually lose out when big corporations like Verizon are involved.

It seems to me that Verizon adopted a different explanation of rather than outright breaking the 60-day unlock policy they committed to FCC. That's why they could get away with applying the change retrospectively. I doubt they can do the same with a new unlock policy, if they can get the approval.

I'm just hoping to get to the first week of August before they change anything, my 2025 Razr unlocks 8/4. That and the iPhone 16e I already unlocked are the last I'm buying for a while.

There is no paid period requirement in the waiver. Verizon is scoffing at the law because they think the Trump FCC will get rid of it completely.

Well, when the president of the country scoffs at laws, the big corporations expect they can do it too.

You should count yourself very lucky. There were plenty of posts on SD where users reported even after filing a complaint it still didn't help & they had to pay for the extra month.

Got the prior 2025 version deal. In for another one. Mom and her caretaker, both on a very old iphone, both want one to try a flip phone. Hope both phones will unlock in 60 days. Thanks, OP.
