This has the 780m which should be great for light gaming.

People love k8 plus NOT because of the spec. That spec is no better than k6 which people easily get for mid $200. Same thing for this. If you care only spec you can get something much cheaper.

People love k8 plus because of the design. The chassis is designed so good that it cools down the 8845hs sufficiently while delivering near silent experience. On the top of that it also comes with a great stand alone oculink that does NOT take a m2. K8 plus confirms GMKtec's leadership on mini PC design that literally beat anyone else (including American naming brands). It was a "okish Chinese brand" before K8 plus but really is a "best mini PC out there" afterwards.

So unless this has comparable quality on design, its not a good comparison to k8 plus.

Just curious, what are your thoughts on intel/thunderbolt vs AMD. Also any thoughts on value. What price point is enough for "light gaming" vs "heavy gaming"? TIA

I'm not that dude, but new AMD/Intel use USB4/Thunderbolt 4 (Same thing.)
Oculink is much better for egpus, because USB4/TB4 have overhead that takes away from performance.
Oculink egpu options are also cheaper than USB4/TB4 egpus.
780M graphics are just about the tippy top of iGPUs. There are a couple "more powerful", but not by much and way more expensive. Hence the reason for USB4 or oculink and eGPUs.

The shills dislike this post but I appreciate it. The shadiness is not worth the savings.

$250 for a barebones of this is very tempting... already know what the 780M iGPU is capable of, and can easily transfer an NVME I have. DDR5 5600 RAM is cheap too. Decisions...

That would imply a UEFI malware package, which is both extremely rare and would not survive a BIOS flash. Let alone a BIOS flash and a reformat.
