In case you stumbled in here and are unsure: Not for Switch 2.
Switch 2 requires new "express" version with ex marking.

Really struggling to justify buying one of this cards at this price now a days when 1 TB of NVME is around the same price and I already have external enclosures laying around for NVME drives.

Have one connected to the Xbox and the transfer rates are night and day.

Only reason I see for these are for devices like the OG Switch the use these. For the Steam Deck and other devices I have seen even cases that come with a space to put an USB NVME drive. But still, SD Card might be more convinient in that case. Hope the price of the 1TB SD Cards keep falling.

A case with a USB NVME slot? That's pretty neat. I wonder what the next iteration of the Steam Deck will use for memory.

The Steam Deck already uses NVME internally.

Albeit size 2240 instead of the typical 2280.

They may switch to SD Express for external storage, which is rated for up to 600MBps currently (10 times faster than the average current micro SD).

Power consumption is another significant difference.

If you have anything battery powered, going over USB will always use more power than SD.

And in some cases, power over USB isn't even sufficient enough to use an NVME adapter even when it might otherwise be supported. Some phones struggle with this, for instance.

Is nobody going to drop a joke here?
and
Is there a gold version?

Got my two Sonic 512GB today. Both couldn't read faster than 90MB/s, about the same as what others were seeing in the reviews on amazon.

90MBps is right in line with what it should be doing.

I'd be more concerned about the writes.

You want a V90 card or better for that.

8K on a V30 would require very low bitrates and definitely couldn't do 60FPS.
