around 3% less performance than Core i7-14700K, but way better thermal, TDP and longevity. For the price there is no match. It's a decent CPU for a RTX 5070 or similar. Anything more than that will start feeling too much bottleneck.

Can someone with knowledge please help. Im looking to buy a new CPU and cannot decide on one. I have an rtx 4070 ti and my cpu is old. My budget is around $500 but I will need a new mobo. I mainly game and usually do not upgrade for years so what would you recommend for something that is long lasting out of all these similarly priced options? Thank you in advance.

If you mainly game, either a 7800x3d for $300 or 9800x3d for $400 at Microcenter. If you dont have a MC, you can price match with Best Buy for those prices. You can also get the 9800x3d + mobo+ 32gb ram combo for $600 at MC.

What frame rate are you looking at? I watched a lot of benchmark, it seems like at 1440p & 4K, to me it is not worth it to pay double for 5-15% performance. If you have a 1080p with 200+ fps, I think the different is quite significant and it's worth it to get the x3D. I have a 7700x with 5070 ti, my fps locked at 120 fps for most games at 1440p, my aging eyes can't see any different above 144 fps.

The x3d CPUs bring consistency to the gameplay experience. The bigger L3 cache improves 1% and .1% lows, which provides smoother gameplay by minimizing hitches, micro-stutters, and judder. You will feel this even when gaming at 1440p or 4k, even though your average frame rate might not get as big of an uplift. Also, x3d CPUs are less reliant on fast system RAM, so you can save some money from having to buy the most optimal RAM speed/timing. I am not saying go pay double for a 7800X3D if you are looking at a 9600X, but the x3d CPUs do provide something more than just a bump in frame rates.

This thing gets it's ass whooped by the i7-14700K. I am not sure if you should get a refund on the stuff you're smoking or if you're smoking some of the best stuff in the world.
It's still a good deal but let's be honest about where the 9600X stands performance wise.
It's way closer to a i5-14600K than it is to a 14700K.

Yeah for gaming the 14700k is going to be better, and for editing or other tasks that depend on a lot of cores, then it's not even close. Perhaps they were thinking of the 9700x which does trade blows with the 14700k, but is obviously a much more expensive part. This is a still a very good deal at this price, but with the way games are getting to be unoptimized and have ray tracing built in, I would wonder how future proof this one is.
