S&S at $2.389 apiece is a pretty good deal - I don't (yet) know what's special about the 10-pack size.
I would assume some of the new in box ones could also have some switch-a-roo fakery shenanigans
I don't buy batteries at Amazon anymore

so if you don't buy batteries from Amazon anymore but why? would you be able to explain?

My thinking is that Amazon does 10 pack size to prevent price matching with other retailers.
It's to preserve the cells. Batteries will always degrade faster when stored at higher than ~70% charge. Eneloops, especially the newer variants, handle storage at higher voltages much better than other batteries, but they still charge them to 70% so that the battery is still in perfect condition when you buy it, even if it sat on the shelf for 5-10 years.
