Yes. Because they're incredible. And Olukai has incredible customer service.

I've had flip flops all across the price spectrum. My first 'expensive' flip flops were Rainbows for ~$50. They took almost a summer to break in, and were *very* uncomfortable for that period. But after that, they were the best flip flops I had (comfort-wise) up to that point. During the summer, I wear flip flops every day and walk at least 2 miles in them each day. Eventually, the soles wore out.

I have some friends who live in Hawaii and they talked about how they loved Olukai's, so I decided to give them a shot. I liked the Tuahine style, but they were $100, and i was thinking, man, $100 for a pair of flip flops????

I went to a local shoe store and tried them on. Whew, they were comfortable *and* supportive. Actually better than any regular shoe I own.

So I found them on sale for $70 and felt, what the heck, let's try them. For the amount of hours and days I spend wearing flip flops, and if they last for several years, the cost per wear is very, very low, even at that price.

This is my 3rd summer with them. They're amazing. The sole is like a hiking shoe - plenty of grip, and sewn on like a real shoe sole. The support is incredible. And they're waterproof leather. If I got the rainbow's wet, I could tell the leather did not like it at all.

With the Olukai's, I could soak the leather and somehow it doesn't matter at all. It's unaffected. They advertise them as waterproof, and they apparently mean it.

So, that's why. If for you, flip flops are beaters to wear around the house or the pool, then sure, $10 will do. But if you think of them as a real part of your wardrobe and a quality piece of footwear, then the price is more than justified.

---

An analogy: if the Lexus dealer had their cars for 40% off, would that be a good deal?

If you're a person who only cares about getting from A -> B and *nothing* else, then no. You'll be happy with a 1998 toyota corolla with wood benches for seats.

Can someone explain to me why flip flops are $50 (normally $80)?

On 2 occasions I've worn rainbows until the sole was so thin light could pass trough it. I really wanted to wear them until my foot touched the ground, but a couple sharp rocks informed me I was lucky I didn't step on glass or a nail when I finally had to abandon them!

Honestly, this is the shoe you really want. https://www.nordstrom.com/s/oluka...&color=224

I have 5 pairs of Olukais and they are by far and away the most comfortable of all of them and my favorite "walk town" shoe.

How is $50 a good deal?
These are amazing - incredibly comfortable and long-lasting. A great deal at this price. I won't even consider any others (I mean this specific model) after wearing them....

I bought $100 birkenstocks thinking the same. They lasted a year. And we're only okay comfort wise. Just another POV
Birkenstocks vary a lot by model too... just like Olukai - Birkenstocks are very comfortable, at least their standard version -

Yawn. The reason to buy this brand is their leatherwork, especially on the footbed. You're referring to leather sandals, but these literally say, "Synthetic upper/textile lining/rubber sole." Run-of-the-mill plastic, dude.

These are the only legit ones on sale, but not slick: https://www.nordstrom.com/s/oluka...en/6715763 [nordstrom.com]
clearly a response from someone who has not worn these. these are well worth the price and I prefer them over leather - much more comfortable.

Yeah I do not think these are the nice ones. I have a pair similar to what that person noted and they are amazing and only flip flops I have purchased since then. I want to say they are around 8 years at this point and still pretty solid. I am sure a new pair would be nice but such little wear so no need.

Have no idea exact model I have and looking at their site, cannot find it. Mine have a much thicker sole than what I am seeing but I have a feeling you want the $140 ones for real leather. I am sure they go on sale as well.
these are the nice ones. i've been waiting for these to be on sale... well, i think this is the first time they have that i've seen. this model is the entire reason i set up the sd alert.

I'm a long-time Olukai wearer (the Nui model mostly), probably 6-7 pairs over the years but always the ones with the leather footbed that are around $100. I tried out the Ohana's and really didn't like the feel of the synthetic upper, they also just felt cheaper. They are a great company and stand by their products, this cheaper model just didn't fit the bill for me. If you try a leather model, I think you won't be disappointed, and no need to go for their top tier model which is around $140.

Been a lifelong Birkenstock wearer, always hated flip flops until I tried these on one day. Have a dress pair with leather bed, and another like these, they are well worth the money, this is a good price.

Fabulous review. Similar story here so I won't repeat it. I look for around $50 Slickdeal price as it's maybe not "buy it for life" but an absolute solid "buy it. Solid price point for a quality item."

50 with shipping is a solid deal

These sound really good, a lot more convincing than Chacos which felt like what Jesus would've worn back in his day. Free returns and my $20-30 pairs are almost busted, so let's give these a shot.

Love seeing everyone come to Olukais defense. The ones posted aren't bad but not best ones they make. These are my favorite sandals ever they are made with such great quality. Quality, fit and durability is top notch. I know they seem expensive but really are great quality.
