Google Voice is simply a free service where you have your own phone number that you give to everyone. It can run from a phone, tablet and/or computer. You can call and text from that number using only data, and nobody has any idea that it's not your actual phone. The "base number" is your cell phone's actual number that you wouldn't need to use at all, so it wouldn't matter if it changed.

I've done this for years because my employer provides me a cell phone but I wanted to keep my personal number separate. So I ported it to GV and have the best of both worlds using the same phone. If I leave this company, my GV number is unaffected. It also works great when in a foreign country because you only need a WiFi connection to use your GV service as if you were at home.

I trust no one. My phones are on VPN 24/7.

Worst network I've ever used. Came from T-Mobile expecting similar speed. Every video I watch buffers unless I have full bars.

Some banks and financial services (Chase, Zelle for instance) don't allow VOIP numbers for SMS 2FA; you need to use either some of the authenticator apps, or a different approach (email, or call).
man thats a bit of a hurdle if you have to change your actual phone number every now and then

I know you can pick an area code for your new phone number , but can you pick a phone number too ?

And what happens if they give you a number that was used before and is on the "spam call list" and gets a bunch of spam calls ?

Sure. But don't these companies track IMEI? So for example if you used the promotion once and you tried again with the same phone, I'm assuming they will not honor the promotion.
No, at least not Mint. I've switched to take advantage of the $15/month unlimited offers many times over the past 2 yrs

Point is - you don't use that number (the base number, that you use for data). You give out only your GV number for calls / texts / other communication; and use the Mint plan or any other like a "data sim". And for applications that don't allow VOIP numbers (like Zelle ) - you make use of authenticator apps or email or other means.

If that's what you want - buy a number from numberbarn, and port it in.

This is entirely possible as Mint is on a lower priority tier compared to most of T-Mobile's plans.

You can purchase the plan now. They don't start your plan until you activate. You can do that in a month when your old plan expires.
I think this promo expires in September so he still has time

I've had them and they were good.
Beware those "Recover Fees" and other dings
I never had a recovery fee with Tracfone's BYOP
