Google Voice is simply a free service where you have your own phone number that you give to everyone. It can run from a phone, tablet and/or computer. You can call and text from that number using only data, and nobody has any idea that it's not your actual phone. The "base number" is your cell phone's actual number that you wouldn't need to use at all, so it wouldn't matter if it changed.

I've done this for years because my employer provides me a cell phone but I wanted to keep my personal number separate. So I ported it to GV and have the best of both worlds using the same phone. If I leave this company, my GV number is unaffected. It also works great when in a foreign country because you only need a WiFi connection to use your GV service as if you were at home.

The visible deal kills this IMO for basically the same price if you have a Chase card and use the referral codes on Reddit. Better overall coverage , truly unlimited, high priority , hotspot , Apple Watch data plan , and international roaming seem to be clear advantages IMO. Aaaaand .... some cash back sites have $40 to $150 back.

are you talking about the new member Visible+ Pro plan for $225? And you can stack a referral code plus cashback site with that deal?

GV unfortunately only works with computer or cellular now. The ability to use as a home phone has been discontinued particularly if you use obihai device.

Mint is good in many ways until you try to cancel the service. Try searching 'how to cancel Mint Mobile' so you can read some horror stories. Mint will purposely make it very hard for you to get your account number and pin so that you give up and stay with them. That's if you even get to speak with a human on the chatbot or phone at all...
