I got a 20w one with the MPPT charge controller. I also got the eyelet connectors to "permanently" connect directly to the battery terminals. I ran the cable externally through the hood and door jamb and covered the exposed wire (6") with plastic corrugated cable protector. The charge controller sits on the instrument cluster and the solar panel itself is suction cupped to the inside of the windshield with a traditional windshield shade behind it to block the sun from cooking the dash/interior. Haven't driven the car in a few months and every time i check it, the car has a strong start, and the controller is flashing green at 100% Charged.... Im happy and wont be prematurely draining/killing the battery again (2 times now) on my backup car.
Per request below, here is the link to the item that i bought:

"Problem is when there is no sun it drains the battery dead. I thought maybe it was the battery so I put it on a brand new battery not attached to anything else. Once again charged during the day and slowly drained it at night. Then we had two days of gray skies and rain. Killed the battery dead. I don't know if all of them do that and there's just something wrong with this one but I can tell you the one that I had previously on there worked great for years."

99% of these do NOT have a diode and will drain your battery regardless if it says there's a charge controller. Most charge controllers are $40-100 just by themselves.
You probably could add a diode yourself though to keep it from draining your batteries.

Sounds more like a parasitic draw from elsewhere, but you certainly know your car better than me. However, just for reference, my solar panel actively charges even on a cloudy day or near dusk. I remember having crappy performing solar panels years ago, but it's pretty amazing how well this thing performs. It definitely exceeded my expectation, but im just a random schmo online. YMMV. Also, please keep in mind that i purchased a different product that what is being shown here in this ad. I posted the link to my actual device. Hope this helps! =)
Check out the Suner Power. We got the 30 Watts version (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DHD3G...title&th=1)
Two of the eight safety protection features like Backflow protection and the Discharge protection, which will help with the discussion of battery being discharge. Also, I heard the solar panel tends to warp due to heat so we mounted on a plywood as a frame to avoid any warpage.

That was my experience too. Thankfully returned it

You may need SAE extension cable depending on your car layout.
Good luck, folks!!!
