I got a 20w one with the MPPT charge controller. I also got the eyelet connectors to "permanently" connect directly to the battery terminals. I ran the cable externally through the hood and door jamb and covered the exposed wire (6") with plastic corrugated cable protector. The charge controller sits on the instrument cluster and the solar panel itself is suction cupped to the inside of the windshield with a traditional windshield shade behind it to block the sun from cooking the dash/interior. Haven't driven the car in a few months and every time i check it, the car has a strong start, and the controller is flashing green at 100% Charged.... Im happy and wont be prematurely draining/killing the battery again (2 times now) on my backup car.
Per request below, here is the link to the item that i bought:
"Problem is when there is no sun it drains the battery dead. I thought maybe it was the battery so I put it on a brand new battery not attached to anything else. Once again charged during the day and slowly drained it at night. Then we had two days of gray skies and rain. Killed the battery dead. I don't know if all of them do that and there's just something wrong with this one but I can tell you the one that I had previously on there worked great for years."
99% of these do NOT have a diode and will drain your battery regardless if it says there's a charge controller. Most charge controllers are $40-100 just by themselves.
You probably could add a diode yourself though to keep it from draining your batteries.

I would have thought by now this technology would more accessible, and cheaper and worked as designed but draining the very battery I am trying to charge is not my idea of a good time.
No. I have one (or similar one anyway) that connects via cig lighter and I leave it plugged in all the time and it works great. Note that cig lighter charging will only work if your cig lighter is always powered, even when car is off.
Another option for connection is OBD2 port. The 7.5W ECO-WORTHY I got came with alligators and an OBD2 to pick which to use on the SAE connector. Was $15.59 on SD when I got that one.

I bought that kit too, and the OBD2 port connection is a great choice. That said, I wanted a charge controller, and that panel was a bit small for keeping my car topped up.
Added a dedicated charge controller and upgraded to a 25W panel which is probably a bit overkill, but the car killed 2 batteries in 4 years because of how often it sits, so I wasnt going to mess around.
only item left from that link is the OBD2 connector!

Steal the OBD2 from the 10W? I had looked for SAE -> OBD2 adapters but they're ~$20
