One of the hidden costs/traps in these low-cost Fire TVs is the voice remote. If you ever lose the remote and factory reset the TV, you could find yourself with a TV awaiting the RF pairing of the voice remote. It is potentially impossible to bypass this screen with an IR-only remote, though I've read of success with the FireTV app. Replacement remotes are available, including first-party options from Best Buy/Insignia and Amazon, but the $20-30 price is a significant percentage of the highly discounted retail prices at which these devices are listed.

Definitely do whatever you can to keep the included remote paired closely with the TV.

Good luck!

I thought I might have been the only one noticing this. 1080p Flat screens used to cost $2000 when they were coming out

Insane how we can buy this technology at these prices. And even the cheapest tvs look good and last forever.

They actually don't last more than 6 years these days. Especially the built in software stops get updated just like our phones and start to run slow and buggy. Especially these junk brands. Plus 1080p 🤮

Maybe that's been your experience. My Vizio and TCL are both around 7 years old. Both still perform great and have had a lot of use. I have another TCL but it's only a year old.
Then there's the 32" Vizio I only just retired. Not a "smart tv." Bought in 2007. Was a full time living room tv then a computer monitor up until 6 months ago. It didn't die. It just heated up a sun-facing office so much that it unbearable. That TV had been in at least 6 different homes and across several states. What a tank. Hell, I remember the time I kicked it off the stand during an argument. And somewhat crushed it when moving it once.

Anyway, I guess results may vary. As for the barf emoji at 1080p, I don't know. I have a 4k and genuinely don't see a difference. I had loaded up some 4k content to see what it was all about and wasn't blown away. It could be because I have a form of colorblindness.

But hey, my defaults on my YouTube Vanced apps are set to 240p so I may not be the target demographic

Is the Fire TV interface better than it was several years ago? And why does the bezel look HUGE on this TV?

Insignia TVs do not last more than a few years with a few hours of daily use. I've had to replace 3 of them in the last 7 years. 3 separate ones, not the same one 3 times.

Some Insignia stuff is really good. Their TV's are not.

how do people lose remotes? where are you going with them? is it kids or something? I've never lost a remote
You never met my wife, when she cleans up she puts one pillowcase, an HDMI cable, one shoe, and either a remote or one of my tool batteries in a box and hides it somewhere I would never look. Then when I can't find something she complains if I ask here where she put it!

Get a second remote on eBay before you have a problem. They are inexpensive.

I paid $4000 for a 40" Sony XBR2 in 2005. Still using it daily as a monitor 20 years later to type this reply. $200 per year, not bad for this level of quality. Pay once, cry once.
My dad is a videophile and bought a high end Sony flat screen 1080p around the same time as you did. It was an impressive picture with very good processing quality. It didn't last for sh!t. It gave up the ghost after only a couple years. He bought a Samsung that is still being used in the living room right now as I type. I have been extremely disappointed with Sony durability, and not just because of the one situation I detailed.

Software support doesn't really last that long for all brands. This goes for Samsung smart tv too. What about Roku TVs? It is what it is. People should have their TV for way beyond +10 years. Lot of people use external fire sticks, Roku or Chromecast on unsupported smart televisions. This is why I prefer a non-smart television with just an external fire stick especially as a OTA antenna user. Insignia uses wifi for their channel guide. If they stop supporting their software in the future, I wonder if they will completely stop having any guide or use the OTA guide.
"Software support for smart TVs typically lasts 2-7 years, depending on the manufacturer and the specific model. While major updates with new features may stop after 2 years, security patches and bug fixes can continue for a longer period. Samsung, for example, is now offering 7 years of OS updates for its latest TVs, starting with the 2024 models."

1080p screens, so they may be getting rid of them, or they're just so cheap to make and there's demand that they keep making and selling them at around $100.

With how fast tech changes, not just the resolution, but the Dolby and the interfaces/RAM, IMO, today, it is best to get something in the midrange or economy range until one can afford a midrange. High end units are only for those who have money to burn -or- an avenue to flip like phones. However, I just don't think the used TV market is as strong to get a good price.
I have Insignia and Toshiba units in my home, and I rarely think of needing a [Sony,Samsung,LG,etc] that is high end.
I'd rather save and get a 4k projector for 125-135" or more.

Got the tv…. Power cord is about 4" too short and is hard wired 😡 has anyone opened it up and replaced the cord?

Also had to wrestle with the remote pairing but eventually got it working by removing and inserting the batteries when the tv is trying to pair.
