I watched that review and I was really confused, it was like he was out to put the thing down. The device did macaroni and cheese fine - for some reason he decides to judge the performance based on the recipe being wrong, why? Square design doesn't allow for hitting the entire bottom, okay, got it - but for some reason this becomes the theme for the entire video when it's an understandable tradeoff. It's a gimmicky device no doubt, but he did a poor review. At this price, no-brainer.

Just watched it, and I think it's a fair review because he's doing so based on how the product markets itself. And the included recipe booklet is part of that marketing. You would think that the booklet would include the recipes that showcase the product, but it clearly didn't do that with mac and cheese, it shredded the mac and the end product was akin to stuffing. What's interesting is it has a stir delay function, whereas if it had the opposite feature where it stirred at the start and stopped the the latter half, it would probably have come out looking great.
The rice and the chilli recipe prove that this isn't the "set it and forget it it" device that it markets itself as ("No hassle cooking" and "Stirmax does all the work for you" appear on the various images on the product page).
That said, I agree with you that it's a great price once you understand what it does well and what its limitations are, and what you're going to need to do to make up for its shortcomings (ie switch off the stir function half way through, or help keep stuff out of the corners in the early stages of cooking). But that's also why it's $28 instead of $99, because it doesn't do what it says it does in the marketing. I'm sure there'll be a v2 that takes on board all of the criticisms and doesn't end up being on clearance for 28% of its RRP
