Examples of what I think are good deals.

Jay Halsey RC10 $312 [towerhobbies.com]

but basically if you're hunting for something that rarely goes on sale seems like a good deal.

I'm very tempted to buy that Konghead... question is, shall I risk being killed by the wife...

The following brands are all hobby grade with good parts support and availability.

Tamiya
Kyosho
Team Associated
Team Losi
Traxxas

Arrma

These brands have a lot of aftermarket support for parts, e.g. aluminum parts, steel gears, ball differentials, etc.

The noname stuff on Amazon/Aliexpress you can still get parts but it tends to be much spottier. Consider those throwaway RCs or toy grade. They are still fun, just harder to get parts and almost never any hop-up parts available.
