And if you sort Amazon reviews by new, you can actually find some smart people spotting that manufacturers seem to be using lower quality silicon to pack so much information into these new cards while remaining affordable. Which already seem to be manifesting itself in higher than average failure rates, overheating, and MUCH slower sustained write speeds on these larger cards. (you could be spending MANY hours during file transfer)
I know this since I almost bought one of these cards last Black Friday for my Steam Deck last time they were on sale, but didn't go through after I learned of what was happening. I ended up sticking with my 1TB card and decided I'll upgrade only once a way more reputable storage maker like Samsung makes a 1.5TB card. (My trust in Sandisk has been at an all time low for some time)

Yeah, that's a terrible write speed. The capacity should be listed as "1.5TB... if you're super patient." At 10MB/s, it would take you days of continuous copying to fill up the card, and that's assuming the card doesn't overheat or anything in that time. Forget 4K video recording, this would be too slow for even some 1080p video recorders.
Not likely. SD cards are good for cameras and things like that, but they can't beat cloud storage or solid state or whatever comes next. The reads and writes may never catch up to the current solid state drives in our lifetime.
A standard 2.5 SSD has an i/o of around 500MB/s. You maybe to find a very expensive SD card that can go 300MB/s at this day and time. It seems close but the newest Hard drive NVME are going 3000MB/s plus.

Memory cards definitely could. Current cfexpress type b are 4Tb and 3600/3300 R/W. Lexar for around $750. Even much cheaper 1Tb are RW 1400/800 for under $200.

Could only find the 400g. Going at that speed, at 200 dollars. That is impressive but not enough to replace NVMe or become the standard.
Assuming there is a 4 TB going those speeds at 750 dollars. For 330 dollars you can get a 4 TB NVMe clocking 12000MB/s. That's not even considered the higher-end item.
The average person is probably not going to get either selection so financially the solid state drives are more financially available for the everyday person.
Point being they have advanced a lot but I can't see them replacing an nvme/solid state unless they come down and price drastically and in crease speed and storage qhich is hard to do on such a small space currently. Think i saw someone mention they would be perfect for pis but pi's are purely for those who play with gadgets.
