Overall the movie is fine, but the VFX are amazing.
Visually spectacular but a narrative mess, this film would have worked much better as a limited series.

Yeah I didn't even know this movie existed until a few months ago and still haven't watched it.
I hate advertising but when you take a step back from it, you really just don't know about new things.
* Examples of dumbness - SPOILER ALERT!!!
- Why does the floating battlestation shine X-ray targeting grids on the ground and why is it sometimes so low that it'd be in the blast radius of the nukes it drops?
- The kid is supposed to be the Ultimate Robot Weapon, but her power level is basically that of a Clapper.
- Why make it a kid instead of an adult with all the features active?

In my opinion, the problem with this movie (in the sense why it wasn't a financial hit) is the same as that for another recent high budget sci-fi movie 'Mickey 17'. Both movies had lesser quantity of action than what it looked like from the respective trailers. They both had more of an introspective thought-provoking angle to them; which by itself is not bad โ just that it was not in line with audience expectations. Both movies were somewhat depressing (iI.e. had a sad undertone throughout). I felt in both cases the marketing was slightly incongruent with the end product. That severely limits word of mouth, and widespread audience appeal. Such high concept sci-fi rarely sells, and usually needs to have lighter themes or a fun element. And if you are dealing with sober themes, the budget should be in line with the source material. Of course, I'm talking in generalizations and there are exceptions to every rule. But I felt both movies were way over-budgeted than what the respective stories warranted.
