I've seen similar thick, heavy-duty doormats at Dollar Tree for $5—probably same size, but all rubbery and tire-like material with not so smooth surface. They looked durable and sturdy enough for car use too, wouldn't slip or buckle, and could handle water and wear. Not sure about long-term quality though—whether they'd start shedding or leaving rubber residue.

I buy the Costco ones and they last about 2 years, eventually get moldy and gross and need to be thrown away. I'm in San Diego, so very little weather impact.
