I bought a Beelink that kept randomly rebooting, and they handled it without issues. The SER 7. They had someone here to deliver it to and once they received it they refunded me. I'd rather have dealt with Amazon, but it was as hassle free as it could get. They got back to me within the day with responses as well.

While it's a okay deal, I refuse to buy Chinese mini pc's direct from the manufacturers anymore. Dealing with returns and repairs is such a hassle and time sink. It's worth it to pay a little extra for the option to just return it to Amazon when you get a dud.

Yes, you're missing a lot of things:
Firstly, this deal was posted before the Beelink one. Secondly, the latter comes with soldered 24GB LPDDR5 RAM, while this comes with the option to upgrade the RAM to 32GB or more. Thirdly, a $100 might be a big difference to some. Not everyone has that kind of money to spare.
No offense intended, but the Beelink item has been $299 on Amazon for quite a while before this thread existed. You posted the Beelink "deal" on SD after I mentioned it to you in this post. But my point was regarding the "bare bones" version of the GMK. By the time the OS, SSD etc is added the total would be close to or above the $299 of the Beelink. But thanks for your response and I understand where you're coming from as the GMK might be more user configurable according to the user's preference and desired specifications.

ive been into self hosting for a while, but i really dont get this market share.

The only reason I recently upgraded from my Pi5 was because I wanted 4 SATA HDDs to replace my USB HDD for my NAS. Upgraded to an ODroid H4+. RAM and NVME are cheap.

What does this offer in reality that a Pi5+ cant do? Youre not transcoding media. Youre certainly not hosting a significant media NAS.

My Pi and H4+ can do 20+ Docker containers just fine. So like, what are you doing here? I get the Ryzen CPU is better than an N100 or N97, but so what? Youre not using this for a heavy lifting home lab anyway. You'd have better hardware.

So what is the point? There should be like 3 markets. Super cheap and useful (Pi), SBC with sata ports (h4+), and desktop/server grade hardware. The NUCs/SBC that have good CPUs that can transcode multiple 4k streams are also so expensive you should literally just get a desktop/server anyway. Not just because of the price, but what exactly are you transcoding files from? They don't have SATA ports or more than 1 or 2 which is not enough.

Pi is a giant waste of money nowadays unless you need GPIO, which I would argue doesn't often require something as expensive as a RPi.

You can find $100 N100 Mini PCs that blow the Pi away and have similar idle power consumption. They can transcode multiple 4k streams with Intel Quicksync making them great Plex servers. They have more than enough CPU power to handle HA, Proxmox, etc.

"Super cheap and useful"

What in the hell?? That's hilarious. A RPi 5 with 16gb memory costs $100, not including case, power cable, power adapter, and worst of all, micro SD card. Add up the costs of all those, you're looking at a roughly $130-$140 device. That is as much as a brand new Intel N150 with 16gb RAM and 512gb SSD.

They also sell NAS mini PCs with N100 or N150 processors that offer cooling and storage of 4 3.5" SATA drives nowadays, so that makes more sense than buying an ODroid H4+ that would require separate enclosure for drives and even a case for the board itself.

It sounds like you're stuck in pre COVID SBC land.

I actually saw that exact video. Just looking for more recommendations as I do research before committing

lol, no. you 100% cannot find a cheaper SBC than the h4+ that has 4 sata ports for $200 or less.1) you're completely ignoring power usage 2) pi5 8gb is $80 new, less used.3) you only probably need storage for the pi..99% of people will already have spare chargers for it.4) the h4+ fully kitted is $202.5) you can't and won't find anything with 4 sata ports with its performance and efficiency for $200. 6) h4+ doesn't require a separate enclosure...7) hahaha transcoding multiple 4k streams with an n100. you're our of your mind. what are you transcoding? 1gb 4k files? you have no idea what you're talking about like 90% of people buying shit hardware for your shit servers.

I have a beelink and when I updated the ram, I fried something. I was 6 months past warranty and they replaced the whole machine either a newer one to boot. I'm a huge fan of theirs now.
