I see these on here a lot. Is this actually a pretty nice guitar? What does it play like (tele, strat, shredder...)?

I grabbed this last time at the same price and couldn't be happier. Guitar Center even price matched it, no hassle. This thing rips. It has a killer tone, solid build, and super comfortable to play. But the real gem is the neck...fast, smooth, and ridiculously comfortable.

... It's a Van Halen branded guitar with a floyd rose. It's for shredding.

These are excellent. A lot of people are unfamiliar with the Floyd Rose tremolo. The idea is simple - it locks the strings at the nut and bridge, so it stays in tune after bending. It has fine tuners for each string at the bridge, but the nut must be loosened with a hex key (get a 3mm hex screwdriver, it's easier than using the "L" shaped wrench included). Loosen the nut, and tune using the tuning pegs. Then tighten the nut screws and then use the fine tuners when needed. You'll get used to it. The guitar is fantastic. Same scale as a Strat, but it seems smaller. Pick ups are great, turn the volume down and they clean up incredibly well. It's not just for shredding, but it certainly shreds better than almost anything else. The neck is terrific in feel and it's carbon fiber reinforce roasted maple. I've been playing over 50 years, and I think these are pretty much in a class by themselves. Eddie knew what he was doing when he designed this. It's not a collection of parts. It's the same design from the ground up that he worked with 3 different companies on.

Bought one. It's a crazy price and finally on a good color. Used ones usually go for at least $70 more. Now I just need to get a D-Tuna for it.

Nooo. Definitely not. This has a Floyd Rose bridge, meaning it's a huge pain to tune until you get used to it. Definitely not a beginner thing, unless she wants to be learning stuff like Van Halen, that requires a Floyd Rose bridge. It can't be tuned on the fly like a normal guitar. Get her something with a fixed (also known as a hardtail) bridge. For stuff like Green Day and Limp Bizkit, you don't need a Floyd. Something like this is a much better idea. https://www.fender.com/products/l...0685471966

It doesn't have to be that, but something with a Humbucker pickup (which is what that has) is what you want for stuff like those bands, and blink-182 and all those other rock and pop-punk bands.

Don't listen to this other person. This is an incredible guitar/value for this price. The neck is top notch (very important for comfortable playing). The pickups rock. The parts alone for this guitar are worth the asking price. And. Don't be scared of a Floyd rose bridge. They're awesome. Your kid is starting from scratch anyway so they have to learn how to use the new guitar either way. Floyd's are awesome. They hold tune very well and DIVE BOMBS!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
