No, it is neither new (Skechers was selling Shape Ups as far back as 16 years ago) nor entirely normal – although a lot of running shoes have adopted a rockered geometry, not nearly to the extreme of these decidedly walking shoes; Nike has the Motiva which is pretty similar – both of which adopt an aggressive rocker to promote fluid motion from heel to toe-off, at the expense of balance while standing (which is what Skechers promoted as a health benefit, over which they were sued – and lost).

Ironically, it is New Balance that (IMO) has struck the balance perfectly with their Balos – it's flat-enough on the bottom to be able to balance effortlessly while standing, but rockered-enough on both heel and toe-off to effectively replicate the experience of those other shoes; too bad it has next-to-no outsole (only the tip of the toes and a lateral slice of the heel have rubber, the rest is "rubberized" foam) – on a $200(!) shoe, so it's likely to wear through pretty quickly.

I bought these on the last sale. I wore them for about 30 seconds before I put them back in the box and sent them back. They have extreme arch support and make it very difficult to stand still. Not as cushiony as one would think and they feel very unstable.

There are a variety of foot strike methods for jogging and running. These should be great for midfoot strike running and jogging; a midfoot strike is said to be safer and more energy efficient for the body, especially when climbing hills. Danny Dreyer perfected the method and wrote the most popular book about it, 'ChiRunning'. Using a midfoot strike does not feel natural at first, it takes practice. Most people's natural tendency is to run heel-to-toe.

Like others said these are a little unstable and get some getting used to but they do help relieve my plantar fascitis. I've found my current fave shoes for walking are Nike Motivas, a nice balance of rocker and stability where I can where them running errands also

ShopSimon looks and feels sketchy, but it is legit.
As to these shoes, I wore them on an 8-mile walk yesterday. Within the first mile I feared I was developing knee pain, but that went away once I adjusted my foot strike. Overall, I am delighted with them as serious walking shoes. When used properly, the cushioning on these shoes almost feels like it is bouncing me down the road... it feels strange, but in a good way. I have been an intense walker for over a decade and my gut says that these shoes will be long lasting, maybe 1K miles... and maybe a lot more.
I should also mention that I experienced muscle burn in some unfamiliar places in my lower leg. Never any pain, just a good clean burn indicating those muscles were working harder than they have been used to.
