If you don't need dual monitors, the M2 and M3 deals are pretty good now. I love my M4 Air though. I can finally just plug in and have my dual monitors at my desk, exactly like when I plug in the MacBook Pro I use to work.
That is just sad. I have a 5 year old Dell consumer laptop and it does dual screens no problem. Triple screens or maybe more if you count the laptop screen.

But your Dell computer probably only last 2 hours on battery

Me too. Not a big fan of Apple strategy,
PC are barely better. just compare a 16gb vs 32gb laptop all else equal, and the jump is double almost

But if you're using a monitor or multiple, you can just plug it in so battery is not an issue. Bought my wife the M3 Costco deal for her going back to grad school after 10 years 😬, still the best deal imho. I would just wait at this point if you can.

Bought my 15" MBA on one of the deals a few months ago. It's been an outstanding system so far.

With M5 pushed out until next year and more tariffs potentially hitting, I'll be surprised if this goes much lower through the end of the year.

As someone who owns multiple pcs, the worst one being a 5950x/4090 setup and the best being a 9950x3d/5090 setup and who plays games and edits videos on them every day.. (all computers have 128GB of ram yada yada .. best gen4/gen5 ssds... everything a pc enthusiast can dream of...

I absolutely love my m4 macbook air

It doesn't need more than the 16GB of ram, it would be NICE if you could get more for cheap or could upgrade the thing, i do admit that, but it's not necessary.

Storage is small, yep... I save everything to my local nas or the cloud anyways. (i do have a 40gig USB4/TB4 enclosure and barely use it on the mac tbh)

For 90% of everything i do outside of gaming (well, i do use emulation on the air here and there) ... and video editing .. the macbook kicks ass.
It's efficient beyond any laptop i've ever owned, not chained down to a power cord ever, performs silky smooth on the battery ( yes it feels fine at 60hz and that was my ONE major holdup that might have made me return it.. i wish they gave it the oled display of the ipad pro.... but the display is just peachy.. it's not breathtaking .. it's above average image quality but below being anything writing home about... the refresh rate doesn't bug me at all.

The battery lasts literally forever.

There is even a way to just put a couple heat pads inside the bottom case to keep it from thermal throttling.. i've seen the air retain the same performance as a pro with the thermal pads. It's not something i reccomend everyone do, but it's safe and just shows how efficient the ARM architecture is.

The fact that this thing can do so much with so little is a breath of fresh air, it's my go to device to be able to take anywhere..

One thing i did buy is a higher wattage power supply. I think it comes with a 35watt charger and can take up to 70-75w charge.. I don't remember the specifics, and I don't even bother taking the charger with me, because it can take a charge off of any usb-c charger if i happen to need to use one.. I use this thing all day without worrying about it.

Keyboard is great, trackpad is great, build quality is great.

It's hard for me to recommend any other laptop on the market to over 90% of the population tbh.
If i didn't do high power computing/pc gaming, this would absolutely be enough for me as well.

That said, if it were my only computer, i would absolutely be more concerned with storage. Since i have network storage that is fast, it doesn't matter as much for me.

If you already own other apple stuff (iphone, airpod pros, etc) .. the ecosystem just makes it even better. I switched to ios from android recently and the ecosystem integration is great. pop my airpods in for discord calls easily now and the camera on the laptop is just fine but the ability to use the phone as a webcam is super nice for quality.. and being able to tie in the iphone calls/messages to the computers seamlessly is super nice.

Appple really did it right with the new silicon though, that's the best part of it all
Call me a fanboy i guess, but i hadn't owned any apple stuff in the past decade until i suddenly did again, and i coudln't be happier with their whole ecosystem and with the efficiency (performance per watt)

Anyways, that's all i have to say about it.

Air is never worth it. Those things don't even have fans in them. If that computer gets too hot, it will throttle itself. It's a built-in feature of the air.
Pro chip or bust.
Base pro has same cpu/gpu cores and the air with two small thermal pads placed in the case (1.5mm and 3mm) won't thermal throttle and will absolutely keep up with the base model pro. (turns the bottom into a heat sink, doesn't heat the battery up more than ~3-5c)

Air is the best value on the market for a laptop.. see my post above, I spend my whole day on computers that will absolutely destroy anything apple produces.. but it's just a fact the air is 10000% worth it.

Most people don't do things that would hit the thermal throttle either way. That takes heavy computing tasks that last for a period of time, which most people simply do not do. Most people aren't going to do anything on the computer that causes it to throttle.

If you're editing full time or doing heavy ocmpute tasks then maybe you should get a pro, or maybe you should get a pc.. if you need a laptop that performs super well and is super efficient, no pont in buying anything else other than the air.

Hilarious that apple charges an extra $200 for 256 more gb ssd and another $200 for 8 more gb of ram. This is basically the same shit as iPhones only using apple cable (which they were forced to switch). I hope they are forced to switch this as well someday. Then and only then will I buy apple products again.

Forget abotu mroe tariffs hitting. There will be black friday pricing on this item lower than were it is now. The market itself for retail is fairly weak. So they have no choice if they want to move goods.

They will survive with or without you.

Its hard to get that config at a really good price becuase the base models are the biggest sellers in the AIR line. Usually it helps if the M5 comes out and retailers like Costco want to move whats left in stores. Otherwise I would say wait until black friday/Christmas and you will find something. The problem is the premium from 16/256 is still usually a few hundred.

Absolutely they will. And customers will continue to pay more for less until more of them be like me.

I am mostly Windows. Have been so since forever. Most of my laptops over the yrs Windows. As soon as you buy them, they are worthless. Yet with some Apple laptops I bought after 5 yrs the thing can still pull me a decent buck to upgrade. The AIRS are built great and serve a great purpose. Thats all that matters to me. The political stuff I dont care. Only the build quality and what I can do with it. And overall I am still a little clunky around the MAC OS interface.

Hopefully the EU will demand replaceable storage at some point. 256gb is insulting.
