I absolutely love my m4 macbook air
It doesn't need more than the 16GB of ram, it would be NICE if you could get more for cheap or could upgrade the thing, i do admit that, but it's not necessary.
Storage is small, yep... I save everything to my local nas or the cloud anyways. (i do have a 40gig USB4/TB4 enclosure and barely use it on the mac tbh)
For 90% of everything i do outside of gaming (well, i do use emulation on the air here and there) ... and video editing .. the macbook kicks ass.
It's efficient beyond any laptop i've ever owned, not chained down to a power cord ever, performs silky smooth on the battery ( yes it feels fine at 60hz and that was my ONE major holdup that might have made me return it.. i wish they gave it the oled display of the ipad pro.... but the display is just peachy.. it's not breathtaking .. it's above average image quality but below being anything writing home about... the refresh rate doesn't bug me at all.
The battery lasts literally forever.
There is even a way to just put a couple heat pads inside the bottom case to keep it from thermal throttling.. i've seen the air retain the same performance as a pro with the thermal pads. It's not something i reccomend everyone do, but it's safe and just shows how efficient the ARM architecture is.
The fact that this thing can do so much with so little is a breath of fresh air, it's my go to device to be able to take anywhere..
One thing i did buy is a higher wattage power supply. I think it comes with a 35watt charger and can take up to 70-75w charge.. I don't remember the specifics, and I don't even bother taking the charger with me, because it can take a charge off of any usb-c charger if i happen to need to use one.. I use this thing all day without worrying about it.
Keyboard is great, trackpad is great, build quality is great.
It's hard for me to recommend any other laptop on the market to over 90% of the population tbh.
If i didn't do high power computing/pc gaming, this would absolutely be enough for me as well.
That said, if it were my only computer, i would absolutely be more concerned with storage. Since i have network storage that is fast, it doesn't matter as much for me.
If you already own other apple stuff (iphone, airpod pros, etc) .. the ecosystem just makes it even better. I switched to ios from android recently and the ecosystem integration is great. pop my airpods in for discord calls easily now and the camera on the laptop is just fine but the ability to use the phone as a webcam is super nice for quality.. and being able to tie in the iphone calls/messages to the computers seamlessly is super nice.
Appple really did it right with the new silicon though, that's the best part of it all
Call me a fanboy i guess, but i hadn't owned any apple stuff in the past decade until i suddenly did again, and i coudln't be happier with their whole ecosystem and with the efficiency (performance per watt)
Anyways, that's all i have to say about it.
Also Apple is offering $300 on $1500 purchases when applied for their credit card . Just for those interested.

With M5 pushed out until next year and more tariffs potentially hitting, I'll be surprised if this goes much lower through the end of the year.

Pro chip or bust.
Air is the best value on the market for a laptop.. see my post above, I spend my whole day on computers that will absolutely destroy anything apple produces.. but it's just a fact the air is 10000% worth it.
Most people don't do things that would hit the thermal throttle either way. That takes heavy computing tasks that last for a period of time, which most people simply do not do. Most people aren't going to do anything on the computer that causes it to throttle.
If you're editing full time or doing heavy ocmpute tasks then maybe you should get a pro, or maybe you should get a pc.. if you need a laptop that performs super well and is super efficient, no pont in buying anything else other than the air.
They will survive with or without you.
