as a person that's built countless custom PCs, it's really not true anymore. these companies buy huge numbers of components at a discount, and they then charge a premium on the assembly that's pretty close to the discount they got on the parts. they make a profit, and you end up paying the same for the pre-built as you would the components of the system you were going to build. it's not exact, but it's pretty close and definitely not worth most people's time. the only people that are putting together systems on their own are people that want to have the experience or something custom, NOT to save money.

Thanks. I prefer skytech builds if similar to DIY. My time is more valuable than a minimal savings!

How is this GPU?
I like to check TomsHardware and Gamersnexus benchmarks/reviews.

Can this play games at 4k?! And is the i9-14900KF with a 5070 4tb for 600$ more worth it?!

Any better machines than this for the value right now?

I dont personally think this is a great price as someone who builds PCs for a living 🤔

It really doesn't take long to build a pc.

Sure it doesn't. Until troubleshooting begins.

The reasons I still build myself are primarily it's near impossible to find a great deal on a system with parts you actually want. It's either the power supply or gpu that I find below what I'm looking for. If I find a system I like, it's never on sale.

Most of my builds don't take much time but that one build will make you question if it's worth it.

The other Skytech deal with the 5070 for $1300 will give you much better gaming performance even though the CPU is slower. The 5070 will be 50%+ faster in most games, even using the non-3D V-cache Ryzen 7700 in that system.

Building yourself could definitely yield a much better result

Stupid blanket generic comment. Agreed with others, my time is much more valuable than saving a few bucks. Maybe if you're in your 20s and broke ass geek out then yeah, build your own

I would say this is a fair price for a prebuilt with these specs compared to DIY.

A custom build with generally good parts/bundles from Microcenter puts this about even with DIY given the wild fluctuation of the 7800X3D bundle. If you got that bundle a few weeks ago when it was ~$480 you could save probably $100 going the DIY route over this price. Right now, and given that it includes a nice (but very unnecessary) AIO, this is a fair price for a great 1080p machine with some solid 1440p performance if you're looking at 60FPS~100FPS gaming. This will not do modern titles at 1440p at 144+FPS with any level of consistency without major sacrifices to graphical fidelity, so if you're a competitive gamer or someone who cares about higher frame rate and graphics, look elsewhere. 4K at 60FPS might be possible on some older titles, but unlikely that you'll be doing any level of 4K gaming with the included GPU without completely reducing graphic settings to their lowest settings.

The problem is, this isn't a very good PC for this price, and thus isn't a great deal in general. When I replace that 9060 XT with a 9070 (non XT) the price only goes up by about $100 when doing a DIY from Microcenter. That PC for $1354.94 completely dominates this machine, I mean twice as good in some metrics especially at 4K.

it would be difficult to build this system for this price, even with microcenter. probably cheap ram, PSU, and nvme.
