Also worth mentioning for Costco members, same spec is $10 more at Costco but comes with a 2 year warranty instead of 1.

There's little reason for > 16GB for the vast majority.
I would only suggest > 16GB if you have a very specific need for it (and most don't). It's (this is) an odd combination: more RAM on a box that isn't made for sustained load. If that's what you want, most of the time you'll be better of with the $1200 MBP14" 16/500 setup, even with the lesser RAM amount.
The average person is far better off spending less and upgrading sooner. Apple is iterating technology and increased speeds far faster than they (err, Intel) did in the past, and so spending less and upgrading after, say, 3-5 years is now a much more interesting proposition. Plus, relative to inflation and historical prices, the Mac pricing has really, really come down, particularly in the low end. The M4 mini, if you don't need a laptop, at $450 is a stunning powerhouse (for home use anyway) of a machine for most people.

I agree. I need a bit more storage. Hopefully, the new apple base model standard will be 16 ram 512 ssd.
