It's two completely different systems for two completely different users.
In general terms, if you're top priority is sound quality, go traditional.
If it's convenience/aesthetics, go soundbar.

1) many people don't have subwoofers prior to getting a soundbar setup like this. Once people hear the subwoofer and how it explodes the room, they automatically think the system is great. Negative, all subwoofers can make a room explode
2) a soundbar will have nulls in the low midrange, meaning if you don't pay attention, you might not notice it. However, orchestra music, and even songs like Superstition will not sound full because anything over 80z is lost since your soundbar speakers (not your sub) cannot go as low. Traditional speakers sound more full because there are no frequency nulls.
3) soundbars are perfect if you don't care about perfection, they are even perfect for computer speakers. I personally think having two bookshelf speakers as computer speakers looks stupid c I'd rather have a single minimalistic soundbar that also has the potential to have a center channel if setup properly.
4) this system went for $400 a month or two ago with Open Box conditions
