$50/mo is their lowest plan at totalwireless. And you would need 2 months.

You're posting incorrect information - please read the current unlock policy which changed in April and edit your posts so new users don't get the wrong info.

This changed in April. Now you need to have purchased 60 days or more of service. 30 won't cut it anymore. Also I don't believe there's a $10 option anymore for activating a new device. Their plans start at 15 for the first month then 10 afterwards for autopay.

I had the Moto Z years ago, loved the concept with snapping attachments like JBL speakers onto the back. but the phone had constant software issues. that was almost 10 years ago so I'm not sure if Motorola has stepped up their game or not on the meantime.
It's water under the bridge, Moto is now owned by Lenovo, so different engineering team

So. What is the unlock policy?
For all cellphones Activated on the Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked automatically 60 days after paid Activation and 60 days of paid active service.

Can I buy this and use it as a small android tablet?
Yes. You can do it with any prepay phone. I recently bought a StraightTalk Samsung A15 at Walmart for $40 for that purpose and it works perfectly.

Can I active it under tracfone (as BYOP or phone purchased from tracfone) and keep my tracfone number and minutes?

Geekbench 6 single core 841, vs ~2000 on a SD 8 Gen 2. So, roughly half. Actually not horrific But 4GB RAM :/ at least 6GB needed to be passable IMO.
Moto phones have ram boost. You can boost to 6gb and 8gb max. Phones come already boosted to 6gb.

Wow this is probably the cheapest Verizon low cost carrier new phone with NFC. I would totally hit it if I knew for sure you could activated directly by porting over my TracFone service

You can get this phone rebranded to other Tracfone companies for better plans. I called and got an agent to do it on my Tracfone account he knew what he was doing and it only took a few minutes but their CS is hit or miss.

How does this phone compare to the deal a couple of days ago at QVC. That Tracfone deal was 2/$50. Moto G Play 2024.

Key differences :
5G support on this, only 4G on the G Play.
CPU more powerful (Snapdragon Gen 3) vs the Snapdragon 680.
More storage (128 GB) vs 64 GB.
16 mega pixel selfie camera vs 8 mp.

OTOH - The G play comes with service, albeit with a low allowances annual plan; able to unlock by activating on those plans and waiting 60 days, whereas this will need additional payment for activation and unlock. Plus, 2 phones there at the $50 price.

This deal: 1 higher quality phone, no service
Other deal: 2 lesser phones, plus 2 years of service

Judging which is better, depends on what you're looking for.

I pay $60/month for 2 lines, their pricing must have changed!
