For patio furniture, it's worth the "buy once, cry once" premium of HDPE or polywood. Leave it outside year round and it looks brand new after a few years. There are occasional deals that come up for an Adirondack in HDPE around $100 each. No maintenance, no headache, no regrets

This is tempting, quality seems iffy on reviews though. $120 for a set of 4 for the fire pit sound a great but not if they are super thin and break / wear fast in weather

This is a get what you pay for. I can see limited use cases at this price if you go into it just wanting something that might last a year or two.

How effective would a coat of Minwax or something on these be?

It may extend their life, if you cover them with Minwax every year or so. Too much hassle for me, I personally opted in for HDPE Adirondack, which is maintenance free - some occasional power washing will suffice.

In for a pair...thanks OP...really can't beat this price. Even if they only lasts a season or two, it's a nice deal.

As much as I like the idea of this price, I don't want a splinter in a place that I can't reach. This type of wood isn't giving me confidence.

This design resembles squatting. It sucked back in 1784, it sucks now.

these chairs were designed with sitting on a hill in mind (Adirondack mountain). Unless you like to sit with your knees to your chest, and slightly on your back - highly don't recommend
