It sounds great. It has great clarity and great bass for its size. I had a JBL Charge 5, which is an upwards of $140. The Boom 2 sounded more full with less distortion. I did observe a slight loss in clarity, but I brought it back by boosting the treble in the EQ. I use it with the Bass boost option on. Now that it's $70, the amount of sound you get is crazy good

This speaker is too small and too cheap to make any slightest difference between the codecs. It might have a noticeable difference if this were a $300+ headphone.

Can I link two of these together for two speakers playing at once?
Yes you can. Highly recommended to connect two together. Manual will describe how to do this.

Can it serve as a gaming pc speaker? Sound quality aside, I wonder if it has physical connections for a less laggy experience.

Dang bought mine in July for 120. I like it and would definitely buy it for 70. The one draw back and its not huge. No skip button on the speaker.

Play pause button twice to skip, 3x to skip back.

Blah, blah, blah. I have several bt speakers. This is the one I grab the most. For $70 you can't beat it for casual, fun times when you need portable music that sounds awesome. Run, don't walk at $70.

I got a Sony SRS-XG300 for $99 at Sierra a bit ago for camping. I'm still in the return period, is this better for the price?

I have been interested in this product. I am seeing specs where it only supports the CODEC called SBC.

As an iPhone user playing AAC files, I was thinking I would want a Bluetooth speaker that uses an AAC CODEC. Is that true? Would I have degraded sound quality in this use case by using SBC instead of AAC? Or would it sound the same?

Thanks for any advice on this.
Its not that serious, just buy it if you like it. You won't hear any difference

Yes, you can link these, even with a different Anker speaker. All the Soundcore stuff has been covered endlessly on YT-

I forget the limitations on how many speakers can be linked.

Agreed.

Not that I've seen anyone in this thread claiming audiophile quality, but that just isn't happening for under $100. Anyone with a discerning ear looking to do critical listening also shouldn't be streaming music or using Bluetooth.

Anker's Soundcore speakers are basically bang-for-the-buck that will please most people not getting overly critical. This Boom 2 speaker in particular is just all around great for:

- this price (not so great at full retail imo)
- the size
- sound quality
- volume level while keeping distortion in check
- bass output (above ~70 Hz or so)
- extras like pulsing lights, daisy chained speakers, app w/ eq, etc

Maybe you need something smaller, or prefer more sizzle in your tweeters, or whatever else. Some other manufacturer will have you covered. This speaker is just one option that does a lot of things well.

For my use case, I loved the portability and price of this Boom 2, but returned it. The low-end oomph just isn't there for when I want to feel even a little 40Hz thump. To get the low-end bass I want, I spent significantly more on a massively bulkier speaker (Tribit Stormbox Blast) that also weighs a helluva lot more than Soundcore's similarly-sized Boom 2 Plus (the big brother to the speaker in this deal). Anker also gimped the bass/sub-bass on their bigger boombox, but just try strapping the Stormbox Blast to the back of your bicycle or carrying it around for awhile. Thing is 14 lbs or so in case you feel like doing bicep curls as you walk. Anker's speakers by comparison don't crank out as much deep booty-shaking bass, but Soundcore speakers are far lighter than JBL's Boombox3, Partybox 120, W-King knockoffs, Tribit Stormbox Blast, etc al.
