Brooks Ghosts are classic. Been around for years. Honestly, I haven't had any in 6 years or so, but as far as I know their quality is still great. I can attest that if you want a street runner that can occasionally hit some basic trails, these shoes can take it

i run exclusively in brooks (not because their shoes are better than everybody else's, but they're good enough and consistent with their models and sizes year after year): Ghost, Launch, & Hyperion.
how do they last?
  • Ghost 14 (1st pair): 507.07 miles (retired to casual wear)
  • Ghost 14 (2nd pair): 468.59 miles (retired to wet runs)
  • Ghost 15: 250.37 miles (and still going strong)
  • Ghost 16: 63.88 miles (in rotation with Ghost 15 for recovery/easy runs)
those are all sidewalk and grass miles (eg on and off sidewalk in city park), no trails.
my 1st pair of Ghost 14 could probably have gone to 600 miles, but i retired them because i needed a pair of shoes for casual/athletic wear and i already had newer shoes in my rotation. they are all black (eg doesn't show stains) and in great shape (eg no tears, rips) and you would never know they had 500 miles on them unless you examined the soles, and even then the tread is only worn down on the ball of the foot, but not worn through.

Long time lurker. In for another pair. I've worn brooks, asics, hokas, and On. Hokas were great for running, but horrible for walking. This pair is super versatile vs what you typically find. They also break in nicely over time. Wore them walking thousands of steps a day in restaurant setting, on treadmill, and on pavement. Just retired a pair to yard duty. Going to use this newest pair just for running and keep my pair I just purchased a month ago for in office more casual wear.

Recently started running (4 months or so), and started off with Hoka Clifton 9's. Great shoes. Then I tried these shoes and I love them also. Admittedly not as plushy (soft?) as the Hokas, but that's okay. I read somewhere that these are ideally for heel steppers, which I tend to be when I'm jogging. So far so good, got about 30 miles on mine and pretty happy thus far.

Depends if you prefer a somewhat squishy shoe or a really tall really squishy shoe.
