Hosting sports games maybe? I have a mirror to multiple screens so YouTube TV and such doesn't think I'm using tons of screens. save bandwidth while playing a game on 5+ TVs.

I mirror my display when I'm presenting on a large screen but need to be doing something to the screen- live code demo, white boarding, things like that. I'll also mirror video games when I'm playing but my kids want to watch from 6" in front of it... I wouldn't buy dedicated hardware for it...

The $5 works on any 2 items in that AmazonBasics Woot category. I got this splitter and a USB-C to HDMI cable for $2.50.

According to the user manual troubleshooting section [media-amazon.com], it does pass audio.

What is that side effect?
If hdcp doesn't work then you can't play certain content. Pretty much any streaming app is going to check that hdcp is working.

Bought a pair at $3.14 shipped; thanks, OP. At that price, it just seems smart to have these on hand in case you ever need them for an unusual configuration or temporary setup. For $3, it's nice to have the option ready to go, IMO.

One possible use: splitting audio to a soundbar from a PC monitor via HDMI. The PC's HDMI output would connect to the splitter, then one HDMI cable runs to the soundbar and the other to the monitor thus effectively "splitting" the audio signal from HDMI on the cheap.

That said, I'm not sure if the split signal would properly support codecs like Dolby TrueHD, Multi-channel PCM, or DTS:X etc in a way the soundbar could still detect and decode them...

One possible use is if you have one of the cheap USB HDMI capture dongles that don't have passthrough. Assuming the splitter doesn't add lag, connecting the splitter before the capture card lets you have passthrough.

This is also what I am thinking: split audio to the receiver from PC, I do not know if it works properly either.

I also am curious why anyone would need to duplicate the exact same screen.
Imagine you playing game on your main display and having the same session projected onto a huge screen in the background.

Also very useful for parties where 2 people are playing a game and the rest are watching/cheering on -- it'll be a little esports arena.
I already have a portable projector from another SD so this would complete that mobile setup. PS5 + this + portable projector + fighting/social games = gaming party kit.

what would be a typical use for this product?
We use one to stream from our Firestick to TV most of the time unless we want to watch a movie on our projector, we then need this switch for that reason.

Be careful…the listing doesn't disclose the HDCP standard it uses. IE, If this only goes to HDCP 2.0 and your TV is 2.2, it will not work or work with stripped down version, only up to 1080p. And some are only for video.

I have an NVR that the users need to be able to see what cameras are being displayed... but the monitors are around the corner. So im using these to mirror the big displays with smaller ones so the end users can put up the cameras they want to view on the big screens by using smaller monitors.

Hope that makes sense, lol
