Also after verification, to not update the firmware as that may nuke the generics.
I can verify this process, as my HP wouldn't recognize generics after a firmware update.
Also, I did the email/text sign-up for $15 off of $60 coupon code (unsubscribing can be done after).
Total with sales tax is $51.78, free delivery.
Repped OP.
Generic inks are available on Amazon, and recent reviews do not mention problems with the non OEM inks.
I bought this printer and it's been a headache ever since. The print head dries up. You'll have to continuously clean the print head to get a nice printout if you don't use it regularly.
You will spend more on replacing the ink continuously.
Do not buy!
Thanks

As soon as I verified generics cartridges and all the printer functions worked, I didn't go any further.
The idea being that you can verify while you can still return the printer.
Also you might be able to bundle with the below offer to receive a free pack of pens.

Re: generic/non-OEM ink, I don't know for sure given there is mixed feedback online. It does seem like good practice NOT to update the firmware. And maybe smart to never insert the starter cartridges in the printer. I personally ordered these ones from eBay for $13 for the 4 pack of XL (500 pages per black and color) and plan on starting with those and possibly never using the starter cartridges.

- To initially setup the printer, you MUST use the starter ink. If you try with non-starter (or at least non-OEM ink), the printer will not complete the setup.
- However, after it is setup I switched to generic/non-OEM ink. I personally ordered these ones from eBay for $13 for the 4 pack of XL (500 pages per black and color) and they worked fine. https://www.ebay.com/itm/17685814...6582
- Upon inserting these, the printer LCD states that they are "non Brother ink" but still accepts them and works fine
- The mobile app also states that they are "non Brother ink" but accepts them
- I did another swap back and forth, ultimately leaving in the the generic ink, and no issues
- The firmware was updated either upon arrival or by me. This did not affect the ability to use the generic ink, but I did turn the setting off on the printer to look for new firmware going forward
- I did get a popup on my computer stating low ink level, but not sure if this was with the generic ink or OEM, and it's not a big deal
- I printed a pic I took on regular cheapo printer paper, and the Brother OEM starter ink was marginally nicer than the generic ink. But this is not photo paper, and neither came out great. Still pretty nice though and I suspect even the generic ink would be decent with the correct paper.
