$10 more than a normal small enclosure. The screen is more of a gimmick. The heat problem might just be that half the body is a Screen that wont help reduce heat leaving only one side to heatsink. All enclosures this size are fireballs to be honest.

What's the appeal of this product when there are cheaper options on Amazon from SABRENT [amazon.com] and ORICO [amazon.com]? The 3-second PLP (Power Loss Protection)?

This may be good for those that have a 2230 SSD sitting around in a drawer, one that originally came with their Microsoft Surface / Steamdeck, one they swapped out. Otherwise standard 2280 SSDs are much cheaper than 2230s and so are 2280 enclosures.

The screen is a gimmick that may contribute to the overheating issue.

Hard pass on that Sabrent one if that cable is not replaceable. The Orico looks good though.

I got the Sabrent one not realizing the cable wasn't replaceable. Stick an old steamdeck drive in it … last night I grab the cord and pull … forgetting it was not removable. Yea I don't foresee that lasting long. Maybe I will return it, snagged this one cause it's cool looking.

Can anyone comment on the heat this produces? Some of the reviews say it becomes a fireball and that's not great for any drive…
i have an asus strix arion which is a similar enclosure for the standard NVME drives. That thing gets pretty toasty. I can only imagine this would be really hot

Thank you for sharing the alternatives.
I grabbed the Orico because I like transparency case and removable cable.

If someone is looking for a small form factor enclosure, look at the sharge disk plus. It can fit 2230 and 2280 ssds and is very thin but dissipates heat better than some of these smaller form factor enclosures.

Thanks for the pointer!

SHARGE Disk Plus SSD Enclosure [amazon.com] ~ $30 ($40 - 25% coupon)

Aluminum and more flat surface for better cooling (heat dissipation). I believe this is designed for sticking on the back of a phone or other mobile device, as the included, replaceable USB-C cable can be tucked in into the unit's body.

Anyone looking for a Steam Deck enclosure may want to consider this one as well. Has pass-through charging and a stick-on ring for keeping it magnetically attached.

Enclosure for m.2 2230 drive.
Computers today do not use spinning drives and opt for these vs. larger traditional credit card SSDs due to size.
m.2 is PCB chipset with storage that you can plug into a slot on your desktop or laptop motherboard. Half the width of a credit card. Also, they are not enclosed like the larger traditional credit card SSDs, hence this enclosure.
Also, compared to flash drives, M.2 SSDs can achieve much higher read and write speeds - limited only by the speed of the USB connection. They also offer the ability to run software and have larger capacities.

Born in the 80's is like the reason you should already know this. You're making us look bad. 🤓✨

What are the buttons and screens like on this? Is it possible to turn this into a standalone device to play the original Doom?
