You'd best avoid whatever low rent solar charge controller they'd include on this even if it was free.

Also I have these batteries from a previous deal. Here is what their Bluetooth app shows. Pretty basic but gets the job done and doesn't require BS like signing up. Didn't ask for any suspicious permissions.

This broken testing method highlight how pointless these PF "tests" are.

The product industry is rife with such 'tests', though....create a sense of an advantage over another competing product. Consumer Reports, Wirecutter, etc. have this down to a science. Genuine enhancements and safety features should be distinguished, but docking 'points' for possible scenarios of misuse is suspect at best.

Im buy this for starting a out board boat motor of 50 horse. Anyone think it ok to do ?
This type of battery is not for starting any combustion engine. Good for smaller trolling motor like 55 lb thrust and down.

Yes. If you need to bring a 1000w of lights, computers and phones camping, you're not camping though.
Always better to oversize your inverter.

'Not gonna defend PF testing methods since they test a wide range of product types and cannot be expert in all product categories - they are what they are, perhaps better than blind buying…

But while many folks, including me know a device should be turned off before hooking it up to a charger, almost nobody turns off the device to charge a phone/tablet/laptop.

And even the most conscientious end user is not 100% perfect, so given a choice between two otherwise equivalent chargers, I'd always choose the one that has smart sensor/soft/delayed/capacitor arc protection functionality built in.

I'm wondering if this would be a good option for my 12v sump pump backup. 🤔 It uses the lead acid batteries that need to be changed about every 4-5 years.

I think the lead acid batteries will be suitable. You need them 100% charged at all times, with a good current output to run that pump immediately. The lithiums don't excel in this area. If they've done you right, I don't know this is the place to mess with change considering how costly the consequences are.

You just made me remember that Consumer Reports outright makes "Not Recommended" any pressure washer that includes a 0 degree nozzle. Since you can also hurt yourself with a circular saw, are those all CR "Not Recommended" too? Testers should just focus on how a product performs when properly used.

Would be handy, can do USB-C (bi-directional, can charge battery too), USB-A and has the 5.5 DC (bi-directional as well) port to run 12V stuff like routers and cameras, no inverter needed. Good deal at $147.89.

edit: also has bluetooth for status/cell monitoring. DC port is 5525 12V/5A
Thanks, that seems to be a pretty good deal for a 1200wh portable battery for just a little under $150, I think the major difference is it doesn't support 120v output, which is fine since the price is just right for most people.

Nothing like gatekeeping the word "camping" on a deals forum 🤣
If you're not living in a shelter you've fashioned from what you've found on site, some people would say you're not camping either. No one cares.

Bingo. A product with the protection built on is objectively better than one without, and that's why it's included as part of the test. Not sure why that's a hard concept to understand.
