Already given up on a pack with a digital copy. But are these movies ever getting a 4K release?? I'm between waiting for a 4K release or buying all of them now before physical media is defunct.

just buy them all now to help ensure physical media doesn't go defunct! you can always upgrade to 4k later (and thus continue to support physical media! lol)

if you're in ny (or many other places) these are cheaper than going to see one once at the theater during the annual studio ghibli "festivals" Wink

To me the jump from Bluray to 4k is not much difference on my 65inch. Maybe on bigger screens it will be noticeable. But DVDs to Bluray or 4k is a big difference on my tv

I agree. But from my viewing distance and size of my TV I can tell a difference. Especially with HDR. Especially on movies like this. Cartoons look incredible in 4K.

bluray to 4k transfers are always YMMV depending on how the source material was initially recorded. which is why it is highly recommended to do a quick research on whatever 4k transfer you are looking to purchase as there are reviews on every single 4k transfer ever released in regard to PQ/AQ etc. there are more than a few that will absolutely blow your eyes out even on a 65" screen (which is probably the most common size living room panel most households rock these days).

The rumor is that we'll be getting 4K releases at some point. I think Princess Mononoke is next on the list.

is the upgrade free if you own the Blu-ray? or will you have to buy it again? just curious.

sorry, i was trying to make a joke about rebuying the same movie again but in 4k, as collectors such as myself sometimes (often?) do for films we really like. unfortunately i haven't seen any kind of "upgrade" deal since the best buy trade & save days probably over a decade ago, where you could bring in just about any dvd to get $5 off a blu-ray..
