I think this movie was severely underrated. I think it took significant liberties from the original, and this upset fans of the original, who couldn't bring themselves to admit that the result was a better movie. And hence it has mixed reviews and success. But as someone who saw but wasn't emotionally tied to the original, I feel like this is up there in my top 5 horror movies with movies like It Follows. It begins to get more absurd as the movie goes on, but you need to just accept that as the style of Evil Dead

Are you talking about evil dead 1 or two? It sounds like you're talking about 2 but this is 1? Either way I like the cut of your jib I personally love the whole series for all different reasons. Upon further inspection this is the remake. Which Imo is a fun time.

The problem I had with it is that the Evil Dead series is basically known for being a horror with a lot of comedic moments. This one was just a brutal horror movie. I went in hoping for a fun gory time but got none of the fun but waaay too much gore. Is it a better made movie? Of course, it has a way bigger budget and made like 30 years later. It's just not an "evil dead" movie which is fine but it not for me. It's also why I didn't watch "rise". I heard it was another brutal gory movie. Which if you're into that then awesome you got a great one, just not my thing.

Sounds like you've never seen the original Evil Dead. The comedy elements didn't really enter the series until 2 and it didn't go full-blown comedy until Army of Darkness. Both the recent movies are pretty similar in tone to the first movie, which was the smart move, IMO. Almost every horror-comedy made in the last 30 years has been a lame attempt to redo Evil Dead.
