1 and 2 TB pro m4 models get 1 extra cpu core (10 vs 9) and 16 gb ram instead of 8 gb for the 256 gb and 512 gb models.

Solid deal. Been using a 2tb 16gb ram m2 iPad Pro 12.9 I got in the fall for ~900. At that price I just had to do it. Been test driving the iPadOS 26 beta, and it's a huge leap from previous functionality. But as a non creative and just using the iPad for laptop things, I hardly notice the 16gb ram. It's nice to have, but the iPad is already so optimized for usual things. I think we are getting to the stage where an iPad can serve needs for most things a MacBook Air would, but I still would not pick this over a MacBook. Nice as a supplemental device, but I think we are at least 2 years away from the iPad being the option you choose over a MacBook. Easy example - even on the m4 iPads, you can't output external display to anything over 60hz, absolute deal breaker in terms of laptop replacement. Apps, multitasking, and overall usability are getting better for sure though.

$500 off is quite the deal, especially if you were looking for the 1TB model, it's sort of a free upgrade to 2TB! Would certainly help resale value down the road at no extra cost now.

If by "special screen" you mean the nano-texture screen, then that's fine by most people who have seen both that it doesn't have it. I had the nano-texture for a couple days and unless you spend all your time in the sun or with a bright window behind you, that nano-texture basically negates the splendidness of that OLED screen. It's dull with the nano-texture screen. It needs (and I mean needs) a $20 magic cloth to clean the screen. It has a purpose but is not an option to just willy-nilly buy because it sounds cool. I returned the nano screen for the normal screen and couldn't be happier. I also looked up reviews of the nano-screen iPad and reviewers agree -- buy it only if you need it.
Yes, difference is small. OLED in this model vs LCD in the past is the main reason to upgrade. I kept the nano-texture and I'm happy with it, but I do understand there is a lot of consumerism here (what's an extra 100$ for a tablet that you're paying 1899$ for without the nanotexture?). Similarly for accessories that are cool but most will rarely use (Pencil Pro RRP 129$, Magic Keyboard RRP 349$).

The visual difference is by no means small, nor is the additional cost and hassle of needing special cloths to clean it. The high-quality Costco yellow microfiber cloths I use for everything and keep everywhere, don't work to remove fingerprints and smudges. It's weird really. Wipe, wipe, wipe -- it's still there. Others say the nano-texture coating can be damaged. Turns out the $20 cloth isn't really magic, though, as I had a Dell cleaning cloth that came with some XPS laptop many years ago that I never used, and I tried that and it worked as well as the $20 magic cloth by Apple.
