Good dollar per calorie. As far as people complaining about quality these all suck, use for a short term emergency and you will be happy you have it.

Mountain House has a big step up in quality but you will pay 3-4X the price.

Cheap 1-2 week emergency that you will probably never use, this fits and will work well. Hiking/ camping know you will use it then Montain House.

"Serving size" is 1/3 or 1/2 cup. Quite misleading...
Also, 1/2 cup of chicken noodle soup has almost 800mg of salt, a 1/3 cup of corn chowder brings 750 mg.
WAAAY too much sodium / salt.

Price seemed good, but hard pass on this even in an emergency... other manufacturers have healthier options.

Unfortunatly Mountain House is that much more expensive than Augurson Farms, Readywise, etc. It is a big step up in quality though.

This Augurson Farms deal (92 servings): 21,000 calories for $60

First MH bucket (30 Servings) I found on Amazon: 8,200 calories for $147

Do the math.

100% agree, that's a ton of sodium in a small service size. Seems like the mac and cheese is the only decent option.

Price is $59.99, not 57, but it's still a good deal. Yes, high sodium but that's probably a major contributor to the long shelf life and in a true emergency you won't care when it's the only option to fill your tummy.

Mountain House isn't THAT expensive. There's also Backpacker's Pantry if you want add-water type stuff.
If you want self heating, there's MREs.

That's take the "92 servings" at face value though. Those aren't really 92 servings. Also, I have gotten MH buckets for a lot less than $150, keep an eye out for deals.

Thanks for the catch. Looks like I was looking at my S&S price. Fixed

Why not just buy a bucket rice beans low sodium chicken base dehydrated veggies etc. I mean this isn't exactly cheap or good? Am I completely wrong? I would truely like some input about the cost and viability. Also I know the extra salt helps to preserve but I am truely worried about those levels. I guess it helps that I already have a vaccum sealer to make proportioned meals.
