Probably needs it because the thermal emission is 45W vs 25 for the M4. OTHOH, this also accommodates a lot more ports.

You cannot upgrade the RAM.
If you want to do anything with local LLMs or graphically intensive tasks the 2022 Mac Studio wins by a significant amount. A M4 Mac Mini with 32 GB of RAM is $999 new and that still won't get you the GPU.
