Unfortunately it is abused regularly, and the "honor system" has kinda taken over.
Eventually the settlement with T-Mobile will end (they won't say when) and Mobile Beacon is probably hoping to become an MVNO like Tracfone was after that.
T-Mobile is required by the feds to offer a certain number of low-income units to meet 2.5 GHz spectrum licenses. They're already ramping up self-ship efforts to replace Mobile Beacon in anticipation of the agreement ending.

You get 120gb of data to use over the month, which should cover you for a few days if your primary internet is down. It comes with a free Tmo modem that you likely need to return if you cancel.
My wife is 100% remote, so I don't mind dropping $120/yr to ensure she has internet and doesn't have to switch to hotspot. If your home router supports primary/backup WAN, it can be a seamless experience to the user (I used to use a Merlin flashed Asus router (from Tmo
Yes, I realize this deal is for unlimited 5G internet access, but, depending on your use case (and the uncertainty of how long it will work), the $175 buy-in would shy me away.

In chat with T-Mobile right now to try and make sure this isn't fraud or something. I guess C4P just uses straight up T-Mobile SIM's? Why 3, though? Is their ordering system really that f'ed in the a?

T-Mobile chat says my account wasn't compromised and no orders were placed through it, so these SIM's are likely from C4P. Weird.

I could understand the T-Mobile sims themselves but weird 3. Wonder what is going on with that. Mine isn't coming in till looks like Monday and looks like signature required.
I sent them a message, no response so far.

Due to a rare error in our fulfillment system, a small number of customers, including you, may have received multiple SIM cards in the mail. We're so sorry for this mix-up!
To make sure everything works smoothly:
The extra SIMs you received have already been deactivated and cannot be used. They can safely be recycled or disposed of.
A new Shield SIM card is being shipped to you by UPS and requires a signature.
Thank you so much for your understanding and patience. We're excited to get you connected as quickly as possible, and we appreciate you being part of the Shield community.
Hello,
Your Shield SIM card is officially on its way!
This order was shipped and will be delivered by UPS with a required signature.
Only one sim card in the package, no instructions, so I send an email to C4P stating as such and asked how to proceed.
Tried popping it in the device, it came up with the T-mobile network and phone # for the device, but no data activity.
Tried to then activate the sim through T-mobile's site and it switch to business layout info and told me to contact my provider.
Still waiting to hear back from C4P.
That looks like a great choice. POE capable, can even be set up outdoors. A dedicated gateway without all the wifi and router stuff I'd have to disable anyway.

Popped the nanoSIM into the X3000. Logged into the X3000 and it automatically connected to the cellular towers. Working 5G home internet.
X3000 is twice the cost of the Shield but it's well-built. Going to keep it and cancel my Shield order.
