Choosing a laptop just makes my head spin. Geesh. Anyway, which is better?

HP - 15.6" Full HD Touch-Screen Laptop (MPN 15-fd0127dx)- Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 512GB .

Samsung - Galaxy Book4 Edge - Copilot + PC (Model Number:NP750XQA-KB2US) 15.6" LED Laptop - Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus 1920 x 1080 (Full HD)

https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-p...n-US-1.pdf

Models with N305, N200, N100 processors
One SODIMM slot supporting up to 16 GB of RAM
DDR4-3200, single channel support
Supports the following configurations:
● 8 GB
● 4 GB

So... Probably yes?

I have it...no backlit keys, 250 nits, 1920x1080. Ram one bank removable. Possibly upgradable to 16GB. It's not bad for a cheap Windows touchscreen. I use it mostly for browsing.

Thanks! I got the 14" N305 Acer Chromebook Plus from Costco [costco.com] for $249 and it has backlit keys and brightness is 300 nits, but there's no SODIMM slot or replaceable M.2. My old eyes would prefer a larger screen so was just wondering if this HP might be a viable alternative. I do mostly bedtime browsing and also remote access of my main workstation and homelab. ChromeOS seems passable but not my favorite.

Unless it is BIOS limited, the N305 unofficially can support 32 or 48 GB sticks.

I can't find the spec of this model because it is designed for Walmart. Model 15-fd0130wm. Notice wm at the end. For Target, you would see tg at the end. But I found the spec for the same series.

It says it supports up to 16G RAM with DDR4 I assume it supports 32G because I tested two old HP laptops from 2019 with the spec said 16G RAM max. They work with 32G with 2 x 16G DDR4.

Processor is severely under-powered- not much more than a tablet CPU. Almost seems like they're trying to rebadge Celerons? It's single-thread rating is lower than the Apple A13!!! https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu....05&id=5213

Yea its a ultra low power chip. OK for e-mail and youtube while having decent battery life.

The bigger negative is this uses DDR4. Its a single channel memory chip so if it uses DDR5 it would be a little faster. DDR4 does hold it back a bit, esp since this is the higher end 8 core version.

I'd pay maybe $180 for this, tops. The CPU is molasses. You need to add more RAM for anything serious. This is too much for a grandma/kid machine. Fine for a backup while your main machine gets fixed, but not at this price. Not even close.

To give some other comparisons, it's nearly identical in benchmarks to a Ryzen 5 3400G desktop CPU. That is coincidentally the same CPU I have in a PC I use as a backup occasionally. It has more than enough power for my typical office tasks with a couple dozen Chrome tabs, multiple Excel spreadsheets and a couple remote desktop sessions. Sure it's a little slower than the 13th gen i7 in my regular PC, but it's very usable.

And 64 GB... DDR5. This one is DDR4 so stuck at 32 GB, not that it is a big problem.
