wouldn't it make more sense to get a cheaper pcie 4.0 nvme as the PS5 doesn't support pcie 5.0 speeds

Performance gain over a gen4 is going to be imperceptible to most of you. You could invest that $150 savings towards a bump in gpu, cpu or ram that would be a more noticeable return on dollar investment.
